The explosion shook the normally quiet cul-de-sac neighborhood where Powell had been living just moments after a caseworker had brought Powell's two young sons there for a supervised visit. Flames roared through the home near the intersection of 182nd Street and 84th Avenue after the 12:30 p.m. explosion. Firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving multiple frantic 911 calls, where they found two young victims and an adult male victim. Sgt. Ed Troyer, Pierce County sheriff's spokesman, said emails Powell sent to authorities seemed to confirm the Powell planned the deadly blast. Troyer didn't elaborate on the contents of the emails. Powell's wife Susan disappeared in December 2009 under suspicious circumstances while the couple was living in Utah, and he lost custody of his two sons last year. Graham Deputy Chief Gary Franz said a case worker had just brought Powell's sons, aged 5 and 7, to the home Sunday afternoon for what was supposed to be a supervised visit. Powell then slammed the door on the caseworker and locked it. The case worker reported smelling gas fumes, and suddenly an explosion ripped through the home just as the caseworker went to her car to report Powell's actions to a supervisor. Many people MANY, operate on a daily basis, while in the grip of such an illness...and can manage ok for the most part. poor diagnosis or improper use of medication... THAT can lead to "Unexplainable" behavior like this... Mothers often operate with different motives, i.e., they believe that killing their children is the right thing to do. Here’s this guy, who by all accounts was a narcissist. He’s been under investigation for a couple of years over his wife’s disappearance. Despite all of the rumor and innuendo, he hadn’t been charged and was living a life with that hanging over his head. Is there a bigger nightmare for a husband than a wife who disappeared? All eyes immediately are trained upon him. But – this guy wasn’t exactly in danger of winning a medal in the good character Olympics. Offing his kids was a reflection that the guy was the danger that the courts thought he was. There’s no defense for it. I can actually see some things: he’s a narcissist who couldn’t handle that he was viewed as being wrong; and (2) he selfishly thought it was better for the kids to die with him than to live without him. I’d suspect (no way can I prove it) that in his self-centered mind he believed that he was doing the right thing. Much like the mother who straps the kids into a car and drives the car into a pond. AND – the blowing up of the house? That had to be sending a message – a final fuck you to everyone. What an asshole. My wife is hotter than your wife. Just a different town and street. We also met a guy today that had actually seen the kids at a dog park a couple of weeks ago. We have the same sheriff's dept, Their understaffed and cover a large area. The response time is like every where else I guess, priority one etc etc. The 911 operator wasn't to concerned when my boss called about my neighbors hands around my throat. But they sure got motivated when my boss told the operator I shot the dude in the face. The operator started sending out everyone before the wife could finish "in the face with pepper spray"The 911 operator cancelled the priority one and the sheriff showed up in about a 1/2 hr.
