kentAllan 0 #1 January 11, 2012 Just wondering what to expect from the DZ and the roundabouts? What to do while there besides skydiving? We are a group of norwegians who are going there in the beginning of march to get some sun,new friends and offcourse some sweet skydives In my case i'll be there for about 18 days. theonlyski 8 #2 January 11, 2012 If you're going to have a car, you can go to the beach (just head west, you'll find one). Orlando has a wind tunnel, plenty of country going around to explore. Z-hills is fun, even during the week they've been running a caravan till they can fill an twin otter, then they send it. You can camp on the dz, rent a trailer or get a hotel nearby. On site food and bar. What else could ya want?"I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
kentAllan 0 #3 January 11, 2012 Thanx for the reply! We are a bunch of 20 +- guys and gals going togheter. The plan is to rent a car for the whole stay, regarding lodging we'll rent RV's. I guess i'm just curious about the place and wanted to know more about it. Cant't wait to get down there :D Will pick up my first cusstom rig while there as well
skymama 37 #4 January 11, 2012 Check out some of the state parks in the area and go to the springs. You can canoe or swim with manatees (Crystal River is a good one for that). http://www.floridastateparks.org/ There's a zoo and aquarium in nearby Tampa. Clearwater Beach has been rated amongst the top in the country because it's so pretty. As for Zhills itself...it's kind of a retirement community from what I've seen. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
TriGirl 343 #5 January 11, 2012 Quote Will pick up my first cusstom rig while there as well Woo hoo! New Gear Beer! In reply to your OP -- I don't know what kind of music you and your friends are into, but here's at least one source of concerts in the local area (to include some in Orlando). Check the site in about a month to see who will be playing while you're here. http://www.97xonline.com/s/concerts/See the upside, and always wear your parachute! -- Christopher Titus Shut Up & Jump! kentAllan 0 #6 January 11, 2012 Quote As for Zhills itself...it's kind of a retirement community from what I've seen. from the pictures i've seen I can agree on that one.. but this thing is organized by one of my instructors so i'm just going there because I have friends going there with me. I'ts still a few months until my dz opens, so it's a great way to get a early start of the season. The money I save buying the rig in the US is pretty much what the flights and lodging will cost so it's kind of a win-win for me :) Anyway; thanx for the suggestions of things to do! I guess i'll go to Orlando for some tunnel-time and tourist stuff for a few days as well As for the new gear beer,i'm just glad to buy that in the US and not in norway... wayneflorida 0 #7 January 11, 2012 I will warn you that Florida is very, very flat. But we have sand spurs and fire ants.
kentAllan 0 #8 January 11, 2012 Yeah, i guess the scenery is somewhat different from what i'm used to. At this stage I have just been jumping at Voss, wich you might know for the extremesports week and Voss freefly festival. As for the sand spurs and ants, I just hope they stay the hell out of my RV
missbrz 0 #9 January 11, 2012 There's also a lot of theme parks nearby. Busch Gardens is in Tampa & Orlando has a LOT of them! There's plenty to do in the Tampa area. & I would definitely go to the beach & to the parks. Go kayaking on the Hillsborough river. There's plenty to do. & there are more younger people living at the DZ lately; there will be plenty of people to play with. When are ya'll getting in? kentAllan 0 #10 January 11, 2012 sounds great! From march 1st me and some others will come, and more will come during the first and second week of march I'm really looking forward to it. Can't wait to go to those big themeparks :p
missbrz 0 #11 January 11, 2012 If you're there the weekend of March 17th, you should consider driving up to the Roaming DZ boogie in Fitzgerald GA. It's going to be a blast! & its not all that far from Zhills (5 or 6 hours i think)
kentAllan 0 #12 January 11, 2012 I'll keep that in mind. My flight leaves the 18th, so if it's going to be a big party up there I don't know if i'll take the chanse..haha. Do you know if there will be some kind of st. patricks party in z-hills that weekend?

So I'm sure you'll find somebody to drink with.
normiss 898 #14 January 11, 2012 With a group like that, do yourself a favor... Call the DZ (800-404-9399) and try to talk to TK. I would expect them to welcome you quite graciously. Then buy him a beer at the end of the day! Enjoy the trip!!!
kentAllan 0 #15 January 11, 2012 It's all taken care of. they have mentioned us coming at their website as well actually. One of the instructors at my DZ is actually there right now, so I think the organizing will be in place when we arrive.
kentAllan 0 #16 January 11, 2012 If not, something i highly doubt, I guess my group will pull off a decent party anyway
hillson 0 #17 January 11, 2012 Quote If not, something i highly doubt, I guess my group will pull off a decent party anyway Paddy'a Day is (blessedly) on a Saturday this year...there will be plenty of beer at the Bird House...Plus it should average about 25C that time of year which is nice. Plenty of very experienced jumpers and a growing bunch of new jumpers that call the dz home...look us up!
