skybytch 273 #1 May 23, 2011 Because one successfully jumped from airplanes in flight numerous times over a period of years without breaking a bone does not mean that one will be as lucky when taking up a new activity. Yes, we are only three months into hockey class and I broke my freaking leg at a stick time last weekend. Tib and fib. At least the shin guard kept it all in line so I don't have to get cut open, but still. That hockey shit is dangerous!

ryoder 1,590 #4 May 23, 2011 I used to jump with a guy who was a skydiver on the weekends, and a softball player on the weekday evenings. He finally had to give up the softball because he kept getting hurt and couldn't jump."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. CanuckInUSA 0 #5 May 23, 2011 I have had so many hockey injuries over the years, I lost track of them all. There's been blood, lots of muscle injuries, separated shoulders, etc, etc, etc. Not only have I taken a goalie stick to the face which resulted in stitches, I also took a goalie skate to the face. Fortunately I was wearing a mask when I took the skate to the face, so no harm done. But I would be Frankenstein's bro these days had I not been wearing a mask that day. Cut to face above my eye from a skate, really bad cut to the inside of my knee... never seen that much blood before and I got knocked out after taking a huge hit. I was very confused for a day after that... stupid brain injuries. Hope you heal up well and get back out there Have you seen my pants? it"s a rough life, Livin' the dream >:)

skybytch 273 #11 May 23, 2011 Quote But I would be Frankenstein's bro these days had I not been wearing a mask that day LOL! I got a stick to the face in our first scrimmage, a guy broke his stick on the goalies face three weeks ago and last night the s/o got a skate to the face. We love our cages and we don't care how uncool they make us look. My break wasn't from anything cool or sexy like a good hit or sliding into the boards. I got my feet mixed up underneath me when I fell. I'll be back out there, probably before I really should be. The game is just too much fun!

CanuckInUSA 0 #13 May 23, 2011 Quote We love our cages and we don't care how uncool they make us look. Wear a mask/cage. It's one thing for the pros not to wear one (they get paid to do this stuff and there are doctors/dentists on call at the rink when the pros play). I was extremely luck when I was younger playing hockey with no facial protection. Twice I have taken a stick to the mouth and did not lose any teeth (but your lips sure do bleed a lot). When I took the goalie stick to the face I was lucky it hit my chin and not my mouth (you could see my chin bone before the doctor stitched me up) and I also took a stick once very close to my eye (more stitches). After all these close call I finally woke up, smartened up and put the mask on and had I not been wearing a mask when I took the goalie's skate to my face, I shutter to think what sort of damage would have been done. There is nothing uncool about protecting our faces. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
grimmie 186 #14 May 23, 2011 Ouch.4 missing teeth, 18 stiches, 3 seperated shoulders, two creaky knees and one really damaged liver from the "after game debriefs" in the locker rooms. I still think we need to do a hockey boogie. A day of jumping and then a pick up game after. There are a LOT of jumping hockey players.Heal up and get back out there! ps...you really broke your leg stomping it on the ground watching your Sharks play. Didn't you! skybytch 273 #22 May 25, 2011 Haven't had an issue with the ankles; my skates are pretty stiff. Pulled stuff in the groin several times when we started the class but haven't done that in over a month. Not sure if that's cuz I learned to stretch right or because I (was) getting stronger. skybytch 273 #25 February 19, 2012 Eight and a half months after breaking, I got back on the ice. Yeah, the ortho said I should wait until at least late March, but fuck him, what does he know? Would have been a lot sooner if I'd gotten hardware like people who have insurance get. But anyway, been out four times and so far it's all good. Yay for bashing a puck around! As soon as the ground temperatures begin to exceed 75F, I'll be putting my rig back on too. Ortho didn't say anything about not jumping and I did mention it - but I'm not sure he understood that by "skydiving" I don't mean doing a tandumb so I can mark it off a bucket list. My advice to you - don't break yourself. Being broken sucks, and being almost better sucks even more.
