jgoose71 0 #1 March 10, 2012 I bought my Computer 3 years ago. I bought my Phone a couple of months ago. My phone has a 1.2Ghz dual core cpu, my computer has a 2.66Ghz dual core cpu. My phone has 1 gig DDR ram, my computer has 2 gig DDR ram. My phone has 32 gig memory, my computer has 320 gig memory. My phone has build in 5-10M/sec download and 2-4M/sec upload speeds that I pay $20 a month for, my computer has 7M/sec download and .7M/sec upload speeds that I pay an extra $45 a month for. My phone has a 8 megapixel camera that takes 1080p video, my computer has a 1.3 megapixel camera that takes video. I can video chat on both. Since I can get a laptop dock for my phone, I find my self asking why I need a computer any more? In a couple more years, phones will probably surpass my computer anyway.... Plus I can fit my phone in my pocket."There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." jgoose71 0 #3 March 10, 2012 I don't know why. I do all my porn surfing on my phone, while I hide someplace where no one can see me..... "There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. skydiver30960 0 #4 March 10, 2012 Try typing up your resume or CV on a phone. Or managing a large spreadsheet. BUT, you're right: the lines between computer/laptop, pad, and phone will get blurrier and blurrier until it'll just be a matter of how big a screen you want. Not to mention blowing up the porn so I don't have to watch it on a 3.4" screen. But I also have an HDMI port on my phone so I could plug it into the flat screen......"There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. I'm a senior citizen and way behind computers, don't have a cell phone never texted etc.. In spite of all the challenging situations going on in the world. IMO the digitial age is a bright spot on the horizon. For the people that are smart enough to harness this "latest and greatest" ever changing technology. In your OP it sounded like you were asking a question but you already know the answerINO Your paying $X and $Y /month for redundent systems If your young enough and smart enough be a leader rather than a follower. Andy9o8 2 #9 March 10, 2012 If dz.com ever gets optimized for mobile, the world will be a better place. Until then, we're stuck with computers.Seriously though, I do a ton of heavy typing, both document creation and long emails. My smartphone just won't cut it for that. What if you could mirror the display from your smart phone to a range of screens from laptop to 50 inch plasma wirelessly and type using a Bluetooth keyboard when necessary? I think his basic question is sound. Carry around 80% of what you need to deal with everyday on a smallish smart phone and you can still have a keyboard and display for times when you need it. Either the iPhone or iPad is 99% of the way to this already. The last 1% is the availability of some unique app that hasn't been ported yet that you absolutely have to have because of some special work you might do.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

If you must know, I'm currently working on a fully wireless neural interface. Hands-free in the truest sense of the word. Sort of a combination of Thought-to-text and Siri, except I don't have to speak, I just think it. I already have a prototype I use to neurally turn the thermostat in the house back down when my kid cranks it up to 80 before she showers. Until my patent is granted, I cannot tell you more. nigel99 616 #12 March 10, 2012 Very true. Just upgraded to a smartphone as it made more sense than a tablet. Now I have books, music and dz.com on the train. Just need a nuclear powerstation in my backpack to power it!Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. That is exactly what my phone does. The only reason i still have a computer is becaue I haven't bought all the peripherals for my phone yet. That, and i don't have a way to stream internet from my phone to all the accessories in my house that use internet yet. But I'm sure those days are right around the corner."There is an art, it says, or, rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." Meso 38 #14 March 12, 2012 I recently got an Android smart phone after just putting it off for ages assuming it's over-rated. Needless to say I see why people are all on about them. I really don't need to carry my laptop around anymore, and with wifi it loads everything just as quick as my laptop too, probably even quicker because I don't have a million useless processors open that's slowing the device down. An with the apps, browsing on a normal browser now kind of feels messy.
