NewGuy2005 53 #1 March 15, 2012 Hey Texas Folks, My wife and I are going to San Antonio next week. We'll be staying on the River Walk. Right now, we are leaning away from renting a car. We'll be there Monday afternoon through Thursday morning. What are the things we should not miss? We are not that interested in the Alamo or the other missions. Nor are we into theme parks. Art museums are awesome. Food is awesome. Margaritas are awesome too. We can rent a car if needed. Suggestions?
AggieDave 6 #2 March 15, 2012 Go eat a burger at Chris Madrids (if you get transportation). The major touristy things are fun (Alamo, etc). When I go, I like going to one of the piano bars on the River Walk, it's a good time if you enjoy that sort of thing.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline." If you're staying at the river walk it is right there. They have the best waterpark in the world if you like that stuff. It has diversions from the river and is unrivalled. The river cruise was ok (although a hobo threw some half eaten chicken at the boat and it hit my wife in the face)Experienced jumper - someone who has made mistakes more often than I have and lived. wmw999 2,587 #6 March 15, 2012 I've heard that La Villita is pretty cool; it's an old-style fair close to the Riverwalk. Might be too much of a retail opportunity -- I haven't been there in about 20 years. There was the best mini-golf place I ever went to close to Six Flags... There's also an SR-71 on display at the Air Force Base -- that's an incredibly sexy airplane. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

JohnMitchell 16 #10 March 15, 2012 The river boat cruise was fun. Go see the Alamo and watch the movie they show about it. It's good. There's some small art galleries in a neighborhood up above the river. You might want to check those out. As a young kid growing up in Dallas my parents took me to the Alamo. I remember being really disappointed, thinking there'd be smoking cannons and battle carnage all over. Instead it was all prettied up with flowers and stuff. I appreciated it much more when I was older.

TKE_440 0 #14 March 16, 2012 I just moved out of San Antonio after 22 years. I always joke when telling people there are only two things to do in San Antonio; eat mexican food and go to the movies. Theaters are a bit of a competition in SA, and they have produced some pretty big ones. As far as the touristy thing to do... 1. Witte Museum http://www.wittemuseum.org/ 2. Botanical Gardens http://www.sabot.org/ 3. Japanese Tea Garden http://www.visitsanantonio.com/visitors/play/attraction-details/index.aspx?id=2668 4. Your SR-71 Blackbird (huge plane when up against it.) http://www.waymarking.com/waymarks/WM3CCY_SR_71_Blackbird_Lackland_AFB_San_Antonio_Texas Have a great trip and I do recommend checking out the Alamo if you have never been!
