pope 0 #1 January 11, 2005 What is the Best (most dense) type of colored smoke canisters available? at least 2-3 min burning time preferably. What have people used in the past for freefall? I have seen some really dense orange smoke, which held up well in freefall and on a wingsuit pilot, but I'm looking for reds, blues, yellows, greens, etc. Any suggestions? pope
BillyVance 35 #2 January 11, 2005 The Liberty Parachute Team has some smokes in stock, or should have some, I'm not sure... that are far superior to what ParaGear has. Check with Airtwardo (DZ.commer on here)... riggerrob 643 #3 January 11, 2005 Yes, the Superior Skydiver smoke sold by Para-Gear is not the most dense, but it also leaves the fewest stains. All of the coloured smokes, burn hotter and leave more residue, residue that is difficult or impossible to wash out of jumpsuits.
pope 0 #4 January 11, 2005 are these hot, colored smokes then all electrically activated? Are they the ones that come in a shiny silver finish canister about 10" tall w/ 2 small wires coming out the top? What do they cost? I need a bunch. I'm assuming something as small as a 9v battery can activate these. Does anyone have any advice on building a switch? pope
SkymonkeyONE 4 #5 January 11, 2005 There is simply no substitute for military M-18 smoke , but it will slag your gear up like crazy if it's still burning at pull time. It also stains anything it gets near. Chuck

The slag and staining of the gear can be mitigated with a good bracket and proper body position during deployment. Those that have jumped with me can tell you that my gear is not all stained. I jump both rigs several times a year with smoke, M-18's. The problem you are going to run into is M-18's are hard to find and very expensive. The rig and the jumpsuit in the picture has at least 30 jumps with smoke. SparkyMy idea of a fair fight is clubbing baby seals

mjosparky 4 #8 January 12, 2005 Quotedo you have a picture of your bracket and what in your opinion is a good position to be in for opening I can get a picture on line when I get home, I am house sitting now. But the position I use is slow down as much as possible and after I throw the PC make sure my bracket leg is straight and about 45 degrees from my body. As I get line stretch, I keep the leg straight and my foot as far away from the body center line as possible. Clear your brakes as soon as possible and get some forward speed going. The smoke comes out the drinking hole just fine but the "spew" collects mostly in the can. Cuts down on the pink shoe syndrome a whole bunch.
mjosparky 4 #10 January 12, 2005 Here are some pictures of 2 different types of brackets. Both work well. I have also encluded a picture of a smoke gator I use to help protect the lower leg of my jumpsuit.
