oldwomanc6 60 #1 March 28, 2012 Oddest spring I can remember. Here in the DC area, There are white, pink yellow, red and purple trees in bloom at the same time! Normally, we get only one color at a time with the dogwoods in late April/early May (extra shot of white and pink). All the colors plus the dogwoods at the same time is weird but incredibly beautiful. Any other areas having a strange spring, too?lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB
billvon 3,116 #2 March 28, 2012 >Any other areas having a strange spring, too? We didn't have a winter so there's not much difference here. We had weeks of 75F weather in December and January. But things are greening up here now after the rains which is nice.
wolfriverjoe 1,523 #3 March 28, 2012 Yes. I have lilacs starting to bud in Wisconsin. The earliest I remember. The apple trees are starting to blossom too. The orchard owners are scared to death. If we have a hard freeze, the entire crop is toast. And our "last frost" date isn't until Memorial day. Over 2 months away."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." masterrig 1 #4 March 29, 2012 We had areal mild winter, here in West Texas. Daytime temperatures have been in the mid to upper 70's. Fruit trees blossomed last week. Got 3/4" of very much needed rain and pea-sized hail, yesterday. Got a little more rain today. Not near enough to end the drought here but it's a good start! wmw999 2,588 #5 March 29, 2012 It's still March and wildflowers have been blooming for a couple of weeks; normally they're more in April. We also had almost no winter. I put in my spring garden in early February. It wasn't much of a risk this year. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. Clematis in bud, vinca, bleeding heart and heather in bloom, day lilies up, peonies up, rose shoots growing like crazy, crab apple in bloom. Very strange "winter".... TriGirl 343 #7 March 29, 2012 Here in Turkey we had a normal winter. Spring seemed to start exactly on schedule (day before the equinox it was like someone flipped a switch!). However, yesterday we got another half inch of snow. Big puffy flakes for about an hour! However, I am very much looking forward to going home to Florida in a couple of months. Usually, my hibiscus gets destroyed by 1-2 nights of freezing temps, going from about 5' tall back down to almost nothing. With this year's "Endless Summer," it should be in great shape!
