shah269 0 #26 January 25, 2012 QuoteLooks like a job for HR and management. They're supposed to had the mad skilz to handle these kinds of problems. It shouldn't be your fight. Went out to CVS for lunch grabbed a few bottles of Fabreeze. Bumped into his boss....a woman who rocks the sweat pants, flip flop look and thinks that monetary compensation is nothing compared with the emotional compensation of working on "exciting" ideas....and informed her that perhaps she should speak with the new guy regarding showering and personal hygiene it is what it is....and that's all i'm going to do about it. untill the economy heats up and I skip out of engineering for good....that day I'll show up naked!Life through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds is necessary to ensure happiness and to keep chaos at bay. Andy9o8 2 #30 January 25, 2012 You have trouble getting to your point in a way that's efficient, concise and (assuming you're not shit-stirring) without putting-off your audience. What you need is either an editor, or a ghost-writer. I've done both. Had you come to me first, here's how I'd have recommended you phrase your OP: "I have a co-worker in my office who has very poor hygiene. He doesn't bathe, he always has very offensive body odor, he brings very stinky food for lunch that smells up the whole place, and using the men's room right after he does is like being in a gas chamber. I am not his supervisor. I'm not sure if he's being inconsiderate or simply oblivious. I'd like to be proactive and try to do something effective about this, but I don't want to either over-step my bounds or be mean to him. Can anyone give me some constructive suggestions? Help!" In response, the tenor of the rest of the thread would probably have been a good deal different than it is.

SivaGanesha 2 #39 January 25, 2012 QuoteAs many know I'm not racists I just hate engineers of all races and religions. And by hate I'm not talking about just ignoring them I'm talking I'm thinking of burning calculus books in front of their homes kind of hate. Like the "Hey dumb ass I can export your job to SEA for 1/4th the pay and get a better result with none of the smell" kind of hate. You manage engineers, right? And used to be one yourself? Look at it as job security. If engineers were easy people to deal with, then you could probably manage them remotely with a one-hour-a-week Skype call and YOUR job could be easily outsourced and done for 1/4 the pay. As long as you are being paid to deal with engineers face-to-face--and put up with their idiosyncrasies such as B.O. face-to-face--you have some confidence that your own job can't easily be outsourced. Face-to-face interaction can't easily be outsourced but it also involves certain kinds of pain--of which occasional B.O. is but one example--that remote work doesn't involve."It's hard to have fun at 4-way unless your whole team gets down to the ground safely to do it again!"--Northern California Skydiving League re USPA Safety Day, March 8, 2014

If it's so darned hard not to exhibit your hate as meanness towards others, then perhaps you should work on changing your basic attitude and learn not to hate in the first place. Then you won't have to worry about suppressing meanness. Doh!
