Naomi 0 #26 November 6, 2006 If you like Phantom GO TO VEGAS and see the production and the Venetian. The Vegas show is the best theatrical performance I've ever seen!! Absolutely amazing! Up until I saw the vegas performance of Phantom the National tour of Les Mis was my favorite to go see. I still like the music for Les Mis best (I sing it in the shower every morning)... Edit: Because I can't spell for shit. Peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.

TheBachelor 5 #32 November 6, 2006 I've seen Phantom of the Opera 8 or 9 times. My only other viewing of a musical was a Les Miserable evening. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

lawrocket 3 #35 November 6, 2006 My favorite has always been "Hair." I saw a video of a stage production, which I thought was great. It's a fascinating look into a highly relevant time, with Claude eventually deciding not to join the new group and instead complies with his draft notice. I even bought a tape of the original Broadway score, which was fantastic. It is, by far, my favorite musical score. It must have pushed some serious boundaries back then - it pushes them today. "Manchester, England, England, across the Atlantic Sea, and I'm a genius, genius. I believe in God. And I believe that God believes in Claude, and that's me." "Oh, once upon a looking for Donna, time, she was a 16 year-old virgin, oh, Donna, oh, oh, Donna, oh oh oh looking for my Donna..." Could you get away with a song like "Colored Spade" nowadays? Sadly, I think that society has regressed to the point where in-your-face relevant commentary is deemed offensive. My wife is hotter than your wife. airtimebabe24 0 #36 November 6, 2006 MY FAVORITE!!! my favorite! i love that one... And someday, i will be Christine Dia from Phantom of the Opera, or Belle from Beauty and the Beast. quade 4 #37 November 6, 2006 Are we talkin' films or stage? Admittedly, there's a heck of a lot of cross-over. Anything written by Andrew Lloyd Webber is bound to please and I think if you look at this thread you'll see that most people have listed quite a few of his works. For a more complete listing see; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Lloyd_Webber#Shows Another great modern musical performer/director has been Tommy Tune. My One and Only, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, The Will Roger's Follies and Grand Hotel being notable. While not strictly "musicals" if you ever get a chance to see anything by Matthew Bourne do NOT pass it up. His version of Swan Lake was amazing and I can't wait to see his version of Edward Scissorhands which opens up in L.A. in mid-December. I've been a subscriber to the full season at the Ahmanson in L.A. for well over 25 years and over the years I've seen some great things and just utter crap. Fortunately, the good things make the crap worth sitting through. I also usually pick up a show or two every time I'm in New York, which, sadly, isn't enough. On the crapiest of the crap side (although not at the Ahmanson) was Nixon in China and most recently The Black Rider (which was at the Ahmanson). The Black Rider actually had some promise since it was a Faustian story with music by Tom Waits (yes, THAT Tom Waits) and lyrics by William Burroughs, but was totally destroyed by the crappy direction of Robert Wilson, who is a monkey at best when it comes to staging. Yes, I was a little pissed off by his train wreck of direction. At least half the audience walked out. As for Nixon in China, if you like hearing the same three notes played by Phillip Glass for 4 hours, you'll love this. Otherwise, you'll just want to be washed over by the sweet release of death.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
Shotgun 1 #38 November 6, 2006 Oh, and "Cabaret" (Liza Minnelli) is also one of my favorite musicals. (I think it would be considered a musical???) That movie has some great music/dance numbers in it.
quade 4 #39 November 7, 2006 QuoteOh, and "Cabaret" (Liza Minnelli) is also one of my favorite musicals. (I think it would be considered a musical???). Cabaret is -A- musical, Liza Minnelli is -sort of- musical (depending on your sense of pitch). Harsh? Maybe, but she just never has turned me on and I think she's mostly gotten by due to her mother. The true "star" of both the stage and screen version of that was Joel Grey.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

I think she was only average and was cast because of -who- she was, not what she could do. We'll just have to agree to disagree on this.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

kingbunky 3 #47 November 7, 2006 if we're talking live theatre, i have to go with 'tommy'. first broadway type show (saw it at the winter garden theatre in toronto) i ever saw and it was amazing. saw phantom in toronto as well, wasn't impressed. for musical type shows, stomp in new york was great, very entertaining. also have to go with the blue man group. seen them 11 or 12 times now, every north american venue plus both tours they've done ('the complex' and 'how to be a rock star 2.0). i preferred the first tour to the second as it is mostly the same, with some stuff taken out. their vegas show is very cool."Hang on a sec, the young'uns are throwin' beer cans at a golf cart."
