mnealtx 0 #1 January 6, 2005 I'm considering getting the Bonehead Havoc - I've read the threads on it, and would like updated opinions. So, Havok owners, your likes/dislikes about the helmet? Any gripes that have come up over time?Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
Amazon 7 #2 January 6, 2005 Luv mine for RW and fun jumping when I am not wearing my camera. I love the ease of bringing down the faceplate just before exit...and putting it up after getting under canopy..... but I hate it for speed skydiving....it rattles way too much at 250 MPH plus and skeers me
ciechan 0 #3 January 6, 2005 I bought almost new Havoc on ebay. I made only 5 jumps with my Havoc and I sold it. It was very uncomfortable for my big head ;) It pinched my cheekbones and was very hard to wear. When I put faceplate up (in plane) it brought down itself by moving. I sold it on ebay and few weeks after I saw next owner was also selling it - it speaks for itself :) but maybe my big head is only reason :D
mattjw916 2 #4 January 6, 2005 I don't own one, but I have borrowed a friend's on occasion and thought it felt comfortable and secure with good visibility. I liked the Factory Diver better though and in the end I bought a Mindwarp since I preferred the open face helmets.NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
darkwing 5 #5 January 6, 2005 I have about 500 jumps on mine, and a friend has about 100 on his. We are both quite pleased with them. The user above who commented that it didn't fit should have changed the padding around, as in most modern helmets, the fit is mostly in the padding. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
ChrisL 2 #6 January 6, 2005 I owned one briefly and I didn't care for it for a couple reasons 1. The inside of the face frosted over on me in freefall on several occasions. 2. It felt very flimsy and gave me no confidence that it would provide even moderate protection in case of a blow on the head I replaced it with a FreeZR from Paratec and I love it. Its big enough for my large head with glasses and doesnt have the problems I experienced with the Havok. Plus, it doesnt look funny __ My mighty steed
mnealtx 0 #7 January 7, 2005 Thanks, everyone, for the feedback. I know that I want a full-face - the idea of catching a foot or elbow in the face just isn't that attractive to me, for some reason. My problem is that I have a LARGE head (24.5", and narrow "long oval"), and I'm worried about being able to find a helmet that fits well. I've also seen where us "melon heads" have problems with some makes of helmet. From the responses, it seems like most owners are pretty satisfied with them. The FreeZR looks interesting - I'd like to find out more about fastening methods and pricing. It *MAY* not go large enough to fit me, though. Any other opinions/experiences/recommendations for other helmets? Remember, it's gotta fit a 24.5" melon!Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. riggerrob 643 #12 January 7, 2005 Two updates that I plan to do on my Havok include adding a little Velcro and enlarging the nose cover. The Velcro should prevent the chin strap from loosing between jumps, while the enlarged nose cover should reduce fogging.
mnealtx 0 #13 January 7, 2005 Yes, I did complete it before I had to come back to work. I'll have to do a recurrency jump when I go back on vacation again.Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706

Generally pretty satisfied tho'.. i found the anti-fog solution worked pretty well if i didn't breath too much but my glasses fogged instead...."Work hard, play hard and don't whinge"
darkwing 5 #16 January 7, 2005 I removed my nose cover hundreds of jumps ago. It was always in the way. I just apply anti-fog every morning, and all is well. -- Jeff My Skydiving History
MWGemini 0 #17 January 7, 2005 Any word on the new Bonehead full face? Last I heard it was nearing the production stage, but I haven't been able to find anything new on it since. Thanks, Mike

mnealtx 0 #22 January 8, 2005 Thanks for the replies, everyone! I've been in touch with Bonehead, and they say that they can send extra shims so that it can be fitted better to my head shape. They're also willing to work with me if I have to return it. I explained that I work in Kosovo, and it could take 2-3 weeks each way, shipping. They didn't have a problem with it. I'd still like to hear more opinions/experiences, if anyone has them!Mike I love you, Shannon and Jim. POPS 9708 , SCR 14706
