falxori 0 #1 January 2, 2005 i'm considering a micron as my next rig, but there is something that bugs me... i've tried several of them on. the older ones were very comfortable but the ones just out of the box were just a pain in the shoulders (my whole upper body was sore after walking around with a new micron for a few minutes.). i've read in other posts (and the reviews) that its common for a new micron and its because the riser housings are inside and not outside. my question is, how soon does the stiffness go away usually? and why do they put the hard housings on the inside? thanks O "Carpe diem, quam minimum credula postero." bliston 0 #2 January 2, 2005 I got a new 306 w/deluxe backpad, and mine was comfortable right away and REALLY comfortable after about 20-40 jumps. I also have a used 306 w/o the backpad (about 500) jumps that is also very comfortable. I wonder if part of the discomfort you were describing was due to not having a that fit properly. A couple of of my friends also got new Microns this year and were very happy right off the bat. I have heard some people say it takes about 50 jumps to fully break in a rig. Vectors may take a bit more time than other other rigs to break in (due to their hearty construction - take a look at the reinforcing & type VII webbing used throughout and compare it with other rigs). That's not to say that other rigs aren't safe, well built, or super comfortable. You just have to weigh all the factors that are important to you. Good luck w/ your decision. If you decide to go with a Vector, check out the recent threads on the Skyhook so you can make an informed decision about that option. BenMass Defiance 4-wayFS website sticks! skycat 0 #3 January 2, 2005 Have someone who knows rig fit to take a look at it. For example if the MLW is to short when you tighten the leg straps it will cause it to pull down on your shoulders.Fly it like you stole it!
pilotdave 0 #4 January 2, 2005 Mine probably took about 10 or 20 jumps to become really noticeably more comfortable. I thought those hard housings in the shoulders were gonna drive me nuts, but I only noticed them on the ground for the first few jumps... never bothered me in the air. Now I don't feel them at all. GravityGirl 0 #5 January 3, 2005 Most rigs are a bit stiff right out the door. That's why I recommend that my customers roll around in it a bit! When the rig is built for you (and your shoulder width), it will be more comfortable. Add some padding for even more comfort. The Micron is a great rig. If you want I can break it in for you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
livnbored 0 #6 January 4, 2005 I love my micron... funny story... I left the plane for one jump and I had to check to see if I had my rig on after I left the plane, even though I'd checked my chest strap and everything in the plane, it felt like it wasn't there... my jump partner was like, what the hell was that thing you did when you left the plane...I was so embarassed... but, hey, that's my micron. Pablito 0 #8 January 4, 2005 The stiffness goes away withing 20 jumps, If the rig is not fitted for you, is going to be unconfortable for sure. I have a 306 and my next one is on the way, and I love them, they are the most confortable rig under canopy that i ever jumped! and on the ground feels like a regular back pad, no problem at all. billbooth 10 #9 January 4, 2005 Most "stiff" rigs are caused by too much reserve canopy packed in the top of the container.
Jonno5 0 #10 January 8, 2005 My Micron was very comfortable right from the start, however the fabric on the outside of the back has been really wrinkled from the get go,i sent it back and was told this would go away but so far after 150+ jumps it hasnt.Anyone else have this problem?
