skydiverek 63 #1 December 30, 2004 I see this option on almost every order form, but out of hundreds of rigs I have seen, all seemed to have the same wide leg pads. Would this be one of the examples?: http://www.jumpshack.com/Gallery/Redad.jpg Can anyone post a picture of "narrow leg pads"?
FrogNog 1 #2 December 30, 2004 Narrow leg pads are just barely wider than the webbing. "Wide" leg straps/pads have extra material to make them significantly wider than the webbing. I would guess that most student rigs have narrow (a.k.a. "non-wide") leg straps/pads. -=-=-=-=- Pull.

I don't see any leg pads at all there, and that would be mad uncomfortable under canopy! Best getcha a tiny Velo so you can get the hell down quick! fwiw, I ordered a Voodoo and one of the options is Wide leg straps which are supposed to be mad comfy. My boyfriend has them and they looked (and felt when I put on his rig) entirely too big for me... so I ordered mine with the regular leg pads and they are perfectly fine for me:) -A
blazetailman 0 #4 December 31, 2004 Yes the Voodoo wide legstraps are surprising comfortable and hardly noticeable when you wear them. My old rig was a talon and had narrow leg straps. I had reservations about the new wide ones but was very surprised by the comfort of them while flying the rig in the air and walking around. Depending on the size of the jumper, a smaller person might prefer the narrow mod compared to the wide legstraps. I prefer a very light weight harness that favors freedom of movement over comfort.www.canopyflightcenter.com www.skydivesac.com www.guanofreefly.com
SkydiveNFlorida 0 #5 December 31, 2004 Yeah, I put my boyfriend's rig on and lifted it enough that the legstraps would fit right, and they not only felt bulky to me, but they looked funny on my, too. I'm big on asthetics, and I felt that the narrow would feel fine in the air and look and feel more comfy on the ground for me:) It's all a matter of preference. I am 5'5" 130 (sometimes;), my boyfriend is much larger and the wider leg straps seem to suit him better:) -A
riggerrob 643 #6 December 31, 2004 Narrow ass = narrow leg pads Wide ass = wide leg pads For example, the narrow, rolled-edge pads on my Talon 2 fit my narrow ass great. On the other hand, triple-wide leg pads on Vector 2 tandems are a damanbly uncomfortable on my crotch.

"Wide" leg straps/pads have extra material to make them significantly wider than the webbing. actually the webbing on wide leg pads is also wider then the webbing on narrow pads (i.e. on the narrow the webbing is just a single peice thick, and on the wide the webbing is staggered and almost twice as thick.) really i think comfort has more to do with the amount of padding then the width, my rig has the standards and its super comfy. You are correct about the doubled width of webbing on wide leg straps. However, we disagree about padding. I jumped my rig without leg pads - a few times - and it worked just fine on my narrow ass. I believe that if you get the harness geometry correct, padding is just a formality.
crazydiver 0 #9 January 3, 2005 The width of a legstrap is simple physics. The wider the legstrap, the more surface area of "seating." Therefore, the wider the legstrap, the less force exerted on one specific point beneath the legstrap. I won't say that it makes a huge difference, but it does make a little. I know I wouldn't want to be a tandem instructor with a student opening up an Icarus 365 with little or no legstrap padding. My nuts can crunch as long as they like in the aircraft. I would rather not have narrow bruises on my legs from an opening...and a TERRIBLY uncomfortable tandem ride down. By the way...how in the world do those style and freestyle peeps fit into those goofy jumpsuits? Kinda looks like heat shrink. Cheers, Travis
