Terminal-V 0 #1 December 30, 2004 Hello Everyone, So I had a friend help with the measurements but being anal retentive I decided to go see a taylor. his measurements were loose and he didnt understand what I was asking him to do. anyway is it suppose to be skin tight or a tinny tinny bit loose. his measurements were off of mine by generally an inch. how percies do you have to be and do the companies really make it to as little as a 1/4 inch or do they kind of round the measurements up or down to the inch. Thanks Everyone, Mike
pilotdave 0 #2 December 30, 2004 Get a rigger or someone that's measured people for rigs before to do it. Not a friend or a tailor. You need someone that knows how a rig fits. Dave
riggerrob 643 #3 December 30, 2004 Tailors are better at measuring than friends. The best "measurers" are riggers or parachute dealers who are familiar with techniques, order forms, etc. Generally you want to measure over your regular jumping clothes and jumpsuit, with a little slack. "Skin tight" is not part of the normal measuring process.
Lostinspace 0 #4 December 30, 2004 Or you could have the tailor measure you up naked and hope you clothes take up the slack in his measurements.
GravityGirl 0 #5 December 30, 2004 PM me with the rig brand, and I can guide you through it. It's not rocket science, but you do want a good fitting rig. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
Adrock 0 #6 December 31, 2004 Yep, definitely get a gear dealer or someone similar to measure you. I had my bf, albeit my skydiving bf, measure me and thus my rig doesn't fit very well. The manufacturer is charging $200-$300 to fix it. Of course, I understand it, but it still sucks for me. Take the time to do it right the first time. My boyfriend measured me and my rig fits ever so nicely:) The instructions are very explicit so it would seem if a mistake was made it would be on the mfg part since they tell you exactly where to measure. Like, right below belly button, or largest part of leg, etc. -A
Adrock 0 #8 January 2, 2005 Actually, I remeasured myself with the help of a gear dealer, and discovered that every single measurement took was wrong. I don't know if something was wrong with the tape we were using or what, but it definitely was my/our fault. The sad thing is I haven't wanted to take a few weeks off jumping to get it fixed yet...
