Lastpass Password Manager

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here use it? One of my kids is wanting to install it on the family computer to manage all of the accounts for all four of us.

I've read a review of it on PC Magazine and they say it is the best there is. I have no doubt about that but my concerns are:

1) Is it compatible with multiple users on one computer?
2) What happens next year when the kids go off to college with their own computers and all of their accounts are secured by software that resides on the computer at home?
3) Convenience. Account security is not something that I worry about and I don't need another piece of technology that has to be managed.

All input will be appreciated. Thanks!

I can not fathom how that makes your computer more secure. There's no way I'd even give my wife shared access to all my passwords.

I especially don't like how it appears to fill in passwords and log you in automatically. To me that's the exact opposite of secure.

I use SecureSafe. Simply holds the passwords in a secure location.

I use KeePass which is open source which in my opinion is one of the most important features of a password manager program.

Open source means that it can be modified by the end user, correct?

Yes and in addition you can verify that it does what it advertises to do and nothing more.
Your rights end where my feelings begin.

You can set LastPass to not autofill and/or autolog. I also like its secure PW gen feature; you can also have multiple accounts so you don't share your UserID/PW vault.

Faster horses, younger women, older whiskey, more money.

Why do they call it "Tourist Season" if we can't shoot them?

Yet he said his kid was going to manage it for everyone.

Again, I can't see how that's a good thing.

Well.... she's good as gold and smart, so that would not be a problem. My worry is that using it will be a nuisance. Also, a year from now when the kids part company with us, will having all of their passwords as well as our passwords being managed by one piece of software be a problem.

I know you mean that she's intelligent and trustworthy, but hold one a sec...

See, to me THAT'S the problem. How people are today is not necessarily how people are a year from now. In fact, and this is the more horrible thing to think about, sometimes they're not even the same as you believe they are right now. That's the problem with trusting passwords to other people. Hell, she could be an awesome kid and trustworthy for the rest of her life, but how well do you trust her future room mate or possible hackers of her computer.

I think it's far better to be responsible for your own passwords.
