usskydiver 0 #2 December 28, 2004 There is no reason (IMO) to charge extra to a pack the reserve of someone who elects to jump a pop top vs. someone who elects not to. I justify it as a "balance" ...as in it alll evens out... Tim T. Team Paraclete Master Rigger
sunshine 2 #3 December 28, 2004 I don't pack them at all. Until i get some 1:1 instruction (which nightjumper has offered), i don't feel comfortable doing it. ___________________________________________ meow I get a Mike hug! I get a Mike hug!
MrHixxx 0 #4 December 28, 2004 By Pop Top, do you mean Racers and Reflexes and/or Javelins, Dolphins, and Wings? -Hixxxdeath,as men call him, ends what they call men -but beauty is more now than dying’s when
Hooknswoop 19 #5 December 28, 2004 Just Racers, Reflex's style reserves. Derek

Hooknswoop 19 #7 December 28, 2004 QuoteThis is a dead thread as this has been done before here I'm well aware that it has been done before. I'm looking to see if there is a trend. It'll probably take a few more polls, spaced about 6 months apart to see if there is a trend. Derek
riggerrob 643 #8 December 28, 2004 If you use Cypres-compatible tools (i.e. Ghost Loops) packing Pop-Tops is a comparatively simple process, 7/8 like packing a Vector. Ghost Loops are free from Jump Shack. My steel T-bodkins were consigned to the trash as soon as I learned about Ghost Loops - a decade ago! Tip: finger-trap a pair of pull-up cords onto your Ghost Loops. That will result in fewer tools to count during closing and fewer to count before signing off the pack job. masterrig 1 #9 December 28, 2004 Hey, Rob! I took-up your suggestion of getting a Ghost Loop from Jumpshack... world of difference! Not hard to figure-out and makes things easier. I've used a compression strap on the pilotchute, for several years. Makes 'flipping' the rig much easier. Chuck
skybeergodd 0 #10 December 29, 2004 I don't have any problem packing the racers or reflex rigs....The only rig that I have charged more for and still hate is the Wings.I can pack them and make them look good...but it's definitly a fight and worth more $$. skydiver30960 0 #11 December 30, 2004 I've had great luck with Reflexes, but have only ever packed one Racer and probably wouldn't pack another before I got some REAL training on how to do it well. My gut feeling is I won't have the opportunity to get that kind of training without moving to a DZ that is more Racer-populous. riggerrob 643 #13 December 30, 2004 The "BIG" trick to making any Pop-Top look good starts when you bag the canopy. You need to create a "crater" in the center of the D-bag and maintain that crater as you close the rig. After you close the side flaps, reach in and gently push bulk away from the loop(s). If you start with a large "crater" then the pilot chute has a place to sink into.
