I own a 20 year old dryer still going strong, and 40 year old washer, still going strong.

If it's a lot over 5 years old, it just may have been built to last. and not built as a disposable item

Agreed.
Being handy and able to maintain appliances saves a ton of cash.
I've seen some friends spend $3000 for a pair of the new fangled ones....simply replacing the defective part would save ass loads of cash.

I like your attitude!

My only question is: how much did the "free power" set you back? How many years will it take to break even? Here in the States, it's still a pretty expensive proposition.

Hopefully, getting better all the time, but not yet there for me.
