sundevil777 102 #27 December 22, 2004 Attempting to walk on a plane with a visible rig is asking for a lot of attention, of the kind that is not fun.People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
bodypilot1 0 #28 December 22, 2004 QuoteIf you go walking up to a plane with a rig over your shoulder, how are you going to check it when they just tell you no-you can't carry it on? Despite official policy, they reserve the right to say no. I've never ran into that problem so I have no comment sorry. IMO, trying to conseal one will get you even MORE unwanted attention. Be honest and forward, before it goes through their system, about what your carrying and things may go smoothly for you. PhreeZone 20 #30 December 22, 2004 The best advice is the gear bag. Its easy to get to can you can check the bag/rig if needed.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
mouth 0 #31 December 23, 2004 I always carry both my rigs on. One goes over my shoulder and one in a small wheeled luggage that fits in the overhead or under the seat. I don't bother with a purse and stuff all my other gear in checked luggage. It gets quite heavy if you are in a sprawling airport so that is why I invested in the wheeled piece of luggage. I can even hook the rig I wear as a backpack over the luggage and don't strain my back. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. bob.dino 1 #32 December 23, 2004 Do most airlines allow you to take that much as carry-on? Normal limits I've encountered are one piece of luggage no heavier than 7kg (~14lbs) for carry-on...
Gravitymaster 0 #33 December 23, 2004 I recently purchased a Sampsonite polycarbonate suitcase with a "TSA Lock" on it. This allows you to lock your luggage so airport baggage handlers can't get to it, but allows TSA to open the suitcase if they need to without destroying your suitcase
Adrock 0 #34 December 23, 2004 I was attempting to fly home today(long story) and was selected for the random search. They opened my carry-on suitcase which my rig was in, asked if it was a parachute and I said yes. They called over the supervisor, she said it was fine, the guy then looks at me with a straight face and says, "I'm going to need you to open this." I guess he saw the look of incredulity on my face, cause he quickly said, "just joking!" The 4 screeners in the area had lots of questions about skydiving in general, and were very professional and polite. Sorry you didn't have a similar experience, Tonto. Tonto 1 #35 December 23, 2004 QuoteI always carry both my rigs on. This was the 3rd rig. Try as I may, I have never managed to carry the 3rd rig on. Thus, the cheapest, oldest, most worn rig gets checked. tIt's the year of the Pig.
GTAVercetti 0 #36 December 23, 2004 The only thing I can think of is... leave one at home. Be like us mere mortals who only have 1 or 2 rigs Why yes, my license number is a palindrome. Thank you for noticing.
OrangeJumper 0 #37 December 23, 2004 You should contact the airport that happened at. The TSA posted a policy letter that states you must be present if the security personnel want to open/inspect your rig. I would be pissed if my rig was inspected without me being present. You never know what they could do. You might contact the airport and see if they will cover the price for your repack. You could always refer them back to the policy letter posted by the TSA. I flew home 18 Dec from D.C. to Oklahoma City and didn't have any problems. Most of the security personnel just gave me a funny look and told me to have a nice day...I know, what a comforting thought The Original Cabana Boy! mouth 0 #38 December 24, 2004 Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you had one and your SO had two. No way can you carry 3 on. Delta allows one carryone and one small backpack, purse, or computer. My rigs aren't that large thankfully so I used to carry them both. One in my carryon and the other as my backpack/purse. -- Hot Mama At least you know where you stand even if it is in a pile of shit. ltdiver 3 #39 December 25, 2004 QuoteOne in my carryon and the other as my backpack/purse. Yep, that's the way to do it. Airlines allow one carry-on and one personal item. Thankfully my rig fit the first definition and my camera helmet the other. I was all prepared to 'adjust' my definitions if needed (if they disallowed one item ) and wear my camera helmet as a hat! Well, they say you can -also- bring a coat or hat as additional carry-ons! Now, my dilemma for 2006's Nat's is how to take 2 rigs, one camera helmet with 3 cameras, plus my laptop all on as carry-ons! For Open Class you -have- to be prepared for all scenarios during competition. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon
