Amazon 7 #3 November 1, 2012 Quote Hit up Amazon, I guarantee she has been using it.Im still on XP Been using it for over a year and a half thru various builds. I have 3 of the release versions on the way to replace all the beta and eval versions I have that are pre Build 8400. I like it its a progression. IE 10 is cool... With that said.. I don't know nuffin bout com putters. ( that keeps the free work down to a minimum)
Maksimsf 0 #4 November 1, 2012 One of the Eval versions turned me away. I will stick to the 7 and Ubuntu for a couple of years. I learned hard way since '95 not to jump on Microsoft products right after their release. Win 8 SP3 - may be :)

Arvoitus 1 #6 November 1, 2012 I upgraded my desktop from Windows 7 to 8 last week simply because it was so cheap to do it. For the first few minutes I was impressed by the new UI, then it really started to piss me off, since I was so used to using the old Windows style UI with start up menus and what have you. Then after few hours I started to get used to the new look and feel and I'm okay with it now. It is significantly faster then windows 7 though, my bios start up takes over twice as long to load then it takes for Win8 to load. Also like the new UI look how its more clear and simplified. The thing that I dislike about it the most is that MS seems to be trying to push people to some sort of online model where they need to have the MS account and everything is located on their cloud servers and soon you'll just rent the SW from MS but I hope its just a bad feeling I'm having. Overall I don't think there is anything so massive in it that you absolutely have to upgrade right now and if you do prepare to have an adjustment period if you do.Your rights end where my feelings begin. Meso 38 #8 November 1, 2012 Eh. I looked into Windows 8 this weekend but there are a few things that put me off, one being that it's not really highly supported yet, I generally like to wait a couple of years before moving onto an operating system - just so that all software is compatible. I like my start button, it's been there for a long time and I'd preferably have it remain there. If I wanted a whole new navigation system and an OS which isn't vastly supported - I'd move to Ubuntu. Windows 8 is generally created with things like touchscreens in mind, the UI navigation for a regular PC seems to leave something to be desired. I've been a long time XP user, it was only actually yesterday that I moved to Windows 7 since I needed a 64bit operating system to run my 8GB of ram. And the transition so far really hasn't been as bad as I was expecting, it seems if one has high specs - Windows 7 is quite delightful (after turning UAC off). I'm quite impressed with 7 and I would likely be waiting until 9 potentially before moving on from it... If at all... May just hang on to it like I did with XP. theonlyski 8 #10 November 1, 2012 I bought it over the weekend at CompUSA and actually brought it to work with me to upgrade my laptop from 64bit 7 Ultimate to 64bit 8 Pro."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
theonlyski 8 #11 November 1, 2012 Well, I've lost Virtual PC and the new Hyper-V isn't supporting my processor. Other than that, very fast booting (running from SSD) and everything does seem to feel a bit quicker so far. Yes its vastly cheaper but its designed for tablets. Finding the applet similar to the control panel is difficult and I'll just stay with my current version of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit edition. One more thing to add...its boots fast...but my windows 7 build is lightning fast as well. Of course I've got two 120 GB SSD's running in RAID 0. I've still got piece of crap Vista on my laptop, which I'm suddenly finding myself using all the time for homework. I'd upgrade to Windows 7, like I have on my desktop, but I think I'd end up missing out on some functionality (Sony FW-190 with somewhat unique screen, sony-built card reader, and R/W Blu-Ray with Vegas Pro). I've seen some reviews of Windows 8, and don't see any reason to buy it when the Windows 7 on my desktop does everything I want it to. When that changes, I'll change.
