College Football - Alabama at LSU

Recommended Posts

Well, here it is again! For the 3rd time in 12 months, these two heavyweights go at it again, this time in Baton Rouge.

Having reviewed the season statistics of both teams so far, all signs point to Alabama being the superior team and should roll, if they bring their A game and do what they need to do.

And LSU fans, being what they are, decided to prank the Nick Saban statue outside Bryant Denny Stadium, taping a tiger tail to its backside. :D

Juvenile pranks like that almost always backfire on them. Just ask Mississippi State how their game against Alabama went after their t-shirt with "We Believe" on it that was draped on the Bear Bryant statue. 38-7! And the lone score came late in the 4th against Bama's 2nd and 3rd team defense.

It's gonna be a great game. B|

Dream on, boy! It's Alabama all the fucking way. B|B|B|B|

In its SEC games, LSU has outscored the opposition 65-64, hardly the picture of dominance... Alabama on the other hand, the scoring discrepancy is 209-44!

What's even more amazing is... Only 10 points have been scored on Alabama's 2nd and 3rd team defenses who have played pretty much most of the 4th quarters and some of the 3rd quarters in those games. In addition, Alabama's 2nd and 3rd team offenses have scored 55 of those 209 points in the 4th quarter.

So... Roll Damn Tide!! To be the man, you have to beat the man!

He is definitely an exceptional talent. If they can do something about their defense, they can hang with and beat the big dogs...

Hey Squeak, did you know this? Both LSU and Alabama have a player from Australia on their teams. Both players are potential All-Americans. Brad Wing, of Melbourne is LSU's punter and he has had a great career so far. Last year he was undoubtedly the best punter in the country and LSU absolutely dominated on punt return defense. Nobody could return a punt.... that is.... until Alabama's Marquis Maze took one back at least 50 yards before pulling up lame with a hamstring injury in the BCS championship game.

For Alabama, it's Nose Tackle Jesse Williams from Brisbane, all 6'-4" and 320 LBs of nasty. He is one scary motherfucker, with tribal tattoos all over his body and sported a mohawk for much of the season until he recently shaved it off. He demands double-teams most of the time, which frees up teammates to make tackles. And.... he can bench press 600 LBs. :o

I'm late getting back to dropzone.com but damn... I had a feeling the game was gonna be a classic. Well, not after the end of the first half, when Bama ran up to 14-3 just before halftime. LSU really brought the fight to Bama. They did their best to beat us, and still couldn't. That last drive by QB A.J. McCarron... wow. That will go down as one of the greatest clutch drives to win a game in the final minute in school history. Taking over on offense at their own 28 yard line with 1:32 left in the 4th quarter down 17-14 after a missed 45 yard FG try by LSU, McCarron threw three straight passes to Kevin Norwood, each going for a first down to get to LSU's 28 yard line. Then after an incomplete pass to the end zone, Bama called a screen pass, expecting LSU to bring the corner blitz. They did, and McCarron to true freshman Yeldon with a short pass and he turned on the afterburners making 3 LSU defenders miss on his way to the end zone with 51 seconds left. BAM!

Roll Damn Tide!!! B|B|B|

LSU totally outplayed Bama in the second half. I think Notre Dame loaned Saban some luck.....the Irish certainly seem to have an abundance of it this year.:)
But hats off to Alabama. Champions find a way to win at crunch-time, and against all odds.....that's what makes them champions.

I grew up in Baton Rouge, and went to every LSU home game from the time I was 10 until I graduated with my bachelors. I figured 'Bama was going to crush them. Mettenberger finally showed up, and LSU played a great game. Too many mistakes against a team like 'Bama, though. Great game, though. Definitely another classic.

That he did. I figured this was THE game for LSU. They pulled out all the stops and ran the whole playbook to try and beat Alabama. Yeah, nothing worked for Alabama in the 2nd half, until the very end. Championship teams just find a way, get their minds right, and go out and get it done when they have to. I do wish Alabama would have run the ball more. They were gashing LSU for 7-10 yards a pop in the early going.

Last year in Tuscaloosa, Alabama won the battle of the statistics, more yards gained, more scoring opportunities, played better defense than LSU, but they lost in the end. That's how this series goes sometimes. The road team has won an awful lot too. Historically, Bama is 25-9-2 or thereabouts in Death Valley. LSU has won more at Bama than they have at home against Bama! LOL

JOHNNY FOOTBALL1

And you've got him for three more years ?

I foresee several Top 10 teams in your near future. :)

Yup, but that is assuming he can stay healthy. Putting your head down and taking hits from D1 defensive players will get you hurt. Really i'm thinking we'll only have 2 years and then he'll draft to the nfl. It'll be fun while it lasts and will help our recruiting along the way.

That's very true......but I thought that about Dennard too, and in reality he's held up pretty well considering the shots he's taken over the years. Manziel looks a lot stouter than Robinson, with the added value that he can actually throw the ball. :)

I have to admit it. The Aggies punched the Tide in the mouth. 20-0 after the first quarter? Ouch. I had enough confidence that Alabama could come back like Florida and LSU did after finding themselves in double digit holes too, and they did finish with 24 points, and shut the Aggies out in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, but.... those two turnovers in the 4th hurt. I think if Alabama would have run it on first and goal from the 6, and 2nd down as well, behind that offensive line, I think we would have scored rather than taking chances throwing the ball on such a short field. It was an exciting game nonetheless. Hats off to the Aggies, their defense came through at the end.

Now Alabama is 4th in the AP poll and probably going to be 5th in the BCS with Georgia probably 4th behind the 3 unbeatens. Believe it or not, Bama wins out and gets 2 of those unbeatens to lose, and they're back in the BCS title game, hypothetically speaking. I'm not saying its gonna happen, just that the potential is there.

That said, Georgia's playing much better now than they were a month ago. I'm not sure Alabama is going to be strong enough to handle them, but one can hope! As for the Oregon Ducks, I would think they would rip us apart if we met in Miami. Our defensive back corps are a bit too young this year to be up to the challenge. However, if it's Kansas State or Notre Dame, I'd say Bama would fare better. But first things first, win the next game and go from there, and hope for some help. ;)

I hate Southern Cal and Limp Kiffin, but it looks like I will have to cheer for them to beat Notre Dame and for Texas to beat Kansas State. :D

Pfffft....I know you don't believe that.

Bama will manhandle Georgia in the SEC championship game.
