Arrogant anesthesiologist

Recommended Posts

Rox has been getting epidurals for back pain for the last 6 months. She went last Friday. Yesterday she had tingling in her arms and a fever. Called the pain management place. Anesthesiologist never called back. She called this morning. He said 'nothing I did could have caused that.' No bloodwork order...nothing. Fortunately she was sitting with another doctor who immediately ordered blood work. What an ass!>:(

Yeah, with all the meningitis in the news lately I'd be off like a shot to be tested for that.

I tend not to like doctors in general. They're always going on about their "real medical degree." They get all pissed off when you point out you arrived at the same conclusion they did with just a couple minutes of Googling and looking up the symptoms on WebMD.
I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?

Not at all trying to defend the actions of this one doc, but WRT doctors in general I used to feel the same way about them. At least until I got my nursing degree and started working with them every day. When I was in the ICU I saw residents and attending docs suffer through workloads and conditions that would rival those of Malaysian sweat shops. The amount of information they are expected to master is INCREDIBLE. They are also one of the few professions in the world (along with pilots and air traffic controllers, right John Mitchell?) that are expected to be absolutely flawless in their execution.

Again, not trying to say this one jerk behaved appropriately or professionally. Just sayin' that, as a whole, doctors really do deserve the respect we give them.

Oh we have the respect Dr.s thing down. Rox is an RN and her daughter is an orthopod. Any anesthesiologist who thinks sticking a needle is someone's spinal column couldn't cause an infection, serious problems, and possibly paralysis is an idiot.

I watched her daughter do residency...brutal. I couldn't have done it and I doubt many could.

In the anesthesiologist's defence, they probably get a lot of patients who think they know everything because they spent 15 minutes self-diagnosing on google... So perhaps it's not so surprising that some of them might develop a tendency to not take you as seriously as they should...
