Nevermind if someone did live, good luck finding their keys and getting their truck started.

Just some B.A.S.E. jumper to lazy to get outta the car...3 2 1 CYA!

B|

On a more serious note - I watched the local LEO's pull a room temperature 20 something out of a mangled mess 1/2 a block away on turkey day evening.

Kid jumped a high curb in triple digits, flew 30 feet at least into and through wooden fence...no wheel tracks from the curb to the fence. He then took down 1/2 a dozen trees at least 6-8 inches in diameter coming to a stop 100+ feet into the woods.

The car disintegrated, largest pieces no bigger than a wash basket, they picked the kid up with a stick & a spoon. The dozen or so empty beer can went into an evidence bag...

Too bad so sad, at least he earned a slot for the Darwin award vote...my problem is that it happened 15 minutes after I'd walked that very spot with the dogs as I do daily.

Quarter hour later and I'd have been a squished bug on this punks windscreen...bad enough to drink & drive, but doing over 100 in a residential area?

WTF!?! :S

Over 100 mph on any roadway is dangerous. If you're really bored I can show you the math that shows how dangerous even 10 mph over on surface streets is really dangerous (and has killed people). As a collision reconstructionist, I go to the dead body calls and I do the investigations, I can tell you that if more people saw the aftermath in the first person they would take better care driving!

So yur sayin when I run from L.A. to Vegas and back at 120 that's not cool? Well. I did get pulled a few mths. ago coming back in high winds/sandstorm at 5 AM doing 90. Prolly was around the legal (alcohol) limit. Cop says "I pulled you over because you were weaving in and out of lanes". Me. "Officer, it's blowing 60 mph crosswinds". No valid D/L, good registration and insurance. Cop looks @ my floorboard. All coffee cups and Redbull cans. Coulda taken me to jail, and towed the vehicle. Says the cop handing me my shit back, " Mr. xxxxx. If you are tired there's a rest stop a few miles down the road if you need a nap. Have a nice day". That's twice CHP has let me slide. (Well the first cost me a grand but let me drive away). Troopers ain't that bad but the local cops (anywhere) can still kiss my ass. Haulin ass in Fl. 10 yrs ago. No D/L again. Ticket and drive away. God bless the Highway Patrol. Flame away. I like to get from A to B ASAP. :P

Back when I first learned to handle DUI cases it absolutely amazed me (still does) how high a really seasoned alcoholic's BAC can get and he could still more or less function- much less not die.

As long as you ONLY kill yourself it's cool! B|

Playing with other people's lives by betting against the effect of the booze, the mechanical condition of your ride and what THEY might do unexpectedly is actually pretty fuckin stoooooopid!

SO far ya been lucky, hope I'm not around ya when that runs out! ;)

When they did the local news segment, they mentioned that anything over 0.38 is usually fatal.

0.50 is somewhat off the charts. :o

PS) His photo on the news the next day showed him only with a black eye; no one mentioned how he got it. :P

Well the news is not quite right.

Any time they talk about a "toxic dose" of anything, they use the term "LD-50." That stands for "Lethal Dose for 50%" of the people that take it.

Because of the wide variety in people's ability to tolerate poisons, due to their own immune system/consitiution or an aquired tolerance due to exposure, you can't really say "X" amount will be lethal.

For a lot of industrial chemicals, the MSDS will list "LD-50 in rats" to give an idea of the toxicity of the substance.

An ER nurse I know has told me that the local "record" is somewhere around 0.75 BAC. The woman was actually concious and walking, but passed out in a grocery store parking lot.

According to WIKI, there have been a number of cases where recorded BAC was over 1.0 (yes, one point zero). Now that's tolerance.
