Man falls from Sky

Recommended Posts

I think there was a runaway teenager that fell from the landing gear of a plane recently in the northeast as well. Said he likely froze to death during the ride.
In every man's life he will be allotted one good woman and one good dog. That's all you get, so appreciate them while the time you have with them lasts.

This seems to happen about once every year or so. Somebody tries to stowaway inside a wheel well, gets crushed, frozen or both, then when the airliner lowers the landing gear they fall out.

I cannot imagine the desperation that pushes someone to convince themselves they could possibly survive such a trip.

Well, that or the stupidity.

I almost pissed myself at one of the comments on the article:

"I hope he wasn't the Nigerian prince who was sending me $47,000,000."

Distasteful but I admit I really laughed.

Very likely most of the people who attempt this have no idea that air gets colder and thinner the higher you go. In fact most 'educated' westerns probably wouldn't realize that.

Or what they think will happen at the destination airport if they do survive. Local security is obviously slack enough that they can stow away, but I'd hope they wouldn't be able to exit Heathrow without proof that they were entering the country legally! It is very sad that people can be so desperate.

I agree, I think they don't have a clue.

David Learmount, an aviation expert of Flight International, told BBC about a lot of ignorance in this area.

He suggested that no one would be willing to risk such journey, having full understanding of this kind of ordeal.

Stowaways who survived usually traveled relatively short distances or at a low altitude.

One case is known of a person who survived an altitude of about 39,000 feet (12,000 m).

The youngest known survivor was aged nine.

Almost all stowaways are male.

From 1947 until September 2012, there were 96 known stowaway attempts worldwide in wheel wells of 85 separate flights, which resulted in 73 deaths with only 23 survivors.

"A post mortem conducted two days after the body landed listed the cause of death as "multiple injuries."

Really? How shocking!

Looks like he thawed-out before landing.

The sad part is the $47M was in the suitcase he lost when he fell out.[:/]
