jackwallace 3 #8 February 8, 2013 Use a phone number instead of email contact, that helps. Put CASH ONLY a couple times, that helps too. I also write my phone 36Five 0082U only make 2 jumps: the first one for some weird reason and the last one that you lived through. The rest are just filler. scr

skydiver30960 0 #10 February 8, 2013 Just ignore them and delete the crap they send you. Send them a quick "fuck off" if it makes you feel better but it will be like pissing yourself in a dark suit. Scammers have been around since the dawn of man. They'll be around long after we're gone. Laziness cannot be bred out of the species. After seeing these scams so many times in so many forums, I'm surprised anybody gets fooled anymore. Then I think of people like my mother: the most internet-naive person on the face of the Earth. Maybe it's a good thing that she can't check her email without assistance. I can just imagine the phone call: "You sent your life savings to WHO via Western Union?!?!?" FlyingRhenquest 1 #11 February 8, 2013 Enough people fall for the scams for the scammers to keep doing it. There are basically no consequences -- most of them originate from other countries and the government is effectively incapable of prosecuting or otherwise doing anything about them. Sending E-Mails or even phone calls is free with voip, and voip calls are effectively untracable, too. So get used to them, because they're not going anywhere.I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here? Krip 2 #12 February 8, 2013 Hi Air The telephone numbe is the way a lot of folks around here do it to deter the scammers. They also try and meet in a public place rather than home when possiblle. We answered a C/L ad this weekend that could have turned very FREE firewood on the front porch will be gone all weekend listed the address. The house was about a mile away so we printed out the ad and Hooked up the trailer & drve to get the FREE wood. Turns out the dudes that lived there were home (We tried to knock first but, the they were already on the way to the door when they heard us drive up. Quote WTF!!! . "We're here to PU the free firewood from your front porch" per the ad in C\L Quote WTF!!! Showed the dude the C/L ad we printed out.The dudes ex girlfriend has been trying to get even and this was just another way to yank his chain. The dude settled down asked if he could take a pic of the C/L ad we had with us. Gave the dude our paper copy of the ad and left. Without getting shot, beat up or arrested. IMO C/L is a big crap shoot got to be very carefull. I would rather donate or give away things than let people on C/L know where I live whenever possible. R.One Jump Wonder
wmw999 2,549 #13 February 8, 2013 I give stuff away on Freecycle with some regularity, but it's always been by meeting them somewhere besides my house. Wendy P.There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence.
