MikeJD 0 #76 February 5, 2013 Nice post, Eric It's certainly a fact that there are relatively few black skydivers - I can think of only two or three that I see on a regular basis, and I know a lot of jumpers. It's an anomaly considering that in most other respects - income, career, age, sexuality, even personality - I think we're actually a pretty diverse bunch. I have encountered racism in skydiving, but no more than in other areas of life. I think to some extent it's a vicious circle - if there was a better range of ethnicity then minority members wouldn't feel as though they stood out and they'd be more inclined to stick with the sport - but if you wanted to encourage diversity, then I really can't think where you'd start. There is a new one that just joined the sport whose home DZ is Triangle in NC. He's a cool guy, and is deaf too. davjohns 1 #79 February 6, 2013 I haven't come across many black skydivers or hang glider pilots or SCUBA divers, etc. These sports aren't popular with that culture. Possibly because of the perceived risks involved.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. Dude thats so retro What do you think is the percentage of the male black population that plays for the NBA in any given year. I think they have a better chance of hitting it big playing the tables at LV or reno. Another reason there maybe so few blacks jumping is because of the kids getting killed by drive by's and the large prison population. Enjoy!
