davjohns 1 #1 February 14, 2013 I've always maintained that hate and love are not opposites. They have a great deal in common. They will both occupy your thoughts and focus them on one person. They will both motivate you to action. They are very intense. I've always maintained that the opposite of love is apathy. It is not intense; does not motivate you, and; requires no action or thought. So, it isn't terribly surprising that people can go from love to hate so easily. How many love affairs end with intense negative feelings / hate? How many relationships start out with crazy love and end up with four rounds to the head and chest? (News story today about 'Bladerunner') Humans are a funny animal.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
BillyVance 35 #2 February 14, 2013 Yeah I can't believe Oscar Pistorius did that. He claims he mistook her for a burglar. Says he pulled an "LAPD". There were previous reports of discord between the two however. FlyingRhenquest 1 #3 February 14, 2013 I have a Buddhist lecture around here somewhere on "What is Love?" Quite often, he claims, love is a selfish feeling. When you say "I love you," you really mean, "I love how you make ME feel." If this is the case, it's easy to see how that feeling can turn to anger when you no longer feel that way. He goes on to assert that if you really love someone, you'll be happy for them when they run off with the postman, because they found joy with that person. Such selfless love is much rarer and much less easily corrupted.I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here? davjohns 1 #4 February 14, 2013 Exactly. Love is an action verb. If you aren't doing something selfless for them, it probably isn't love.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. lawrocket 3 #5 February 14, 2013 Heard a song yesterday that I hadn't heard in a long time. Perhaps I just wasn't mature enough to understand it but I found it to be pretty powerful. (I finally figured out that the femal background singer was singer "Les yeux sans visage.") Eyes Without a Face by Billy Idol. I interpreted it as a person falling in love with what he THOUGHT was the object of his desire. ANd it was interesting that at the end he sang about how he doesn't despise her but seems to realize that it's his fault for conjuring up what wasn't real. Been there. Done that. Maybe it's why I don't blame the ex. I think that hate that comes from ending relationships is a coping mechanism. So I understand it. Hate is the flip side of the same coin as love. My wife is hotter than your wife.

The hate comes from the pain of rejection. The opposite of love is apathy. If they hate you, they care. If they really don't love you, they don't care. Life and love are funny that way, aren't they? promise5 17 #7 February 14, 2013 I just keep it simple. I love everyone. But, for the person that drinks the last cup of coffee at the office and doesn't make more. Oh, I'm going to love you in a very special way. I hear the hospital has really improved its food and the beds are so nice and comfy. No matter how slowly you say oranges it never sounds like gullible. Believe me I tried.

wolfriverjoe 1,523 #9 February 15, 2013 QuoteHate and love are all too similar. The opposite of love is indifference. Interesting. I got that as a fortune out of a fortune cookie one time. I think it went something like: "The opposite of love is not hate, it is indifference." The really interesting part is the lunch was with my ex-wife's cousin (he introduced us and is still a very close friend). He had mentioned that she was going through a difficult breakup with a S/O who he had thought was a really bad choice. I didn't really want to know all the details, I try not to get involved. But I had said something to the effect of "I still love her and always will, but I have no interest in getting involved in any of her drama." And then that showed up in the fortune cookie."There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Kind of like the LAPD shooting up the two newspaper-delivering ladies because they drove a truck similar to Chris Dorner's and because the headlights were off. No verification of identity.
