I guess, it just boils-down to where ou're brought-up. Here in the States, we just have a different mindset when it comes to horses. I don't think, I could even bring myself to try horsemeat.

Nonsense. I was brought up in Canada, where most people would agree with you. I still go back to the same question - I personally don't see why you would have a problem with eating horse as compared to cow (for instance).

not as a part of their general diet no they dont.

We eat Emu and Kangaroo here, many folks are astounded that we chow down on the animals on our coat or arms:ph34r::ph34r::ph34r: meat is meat, horse deer, Roo, Rabbit, guinea pig, snake lizard shark, it's all food when you're hungry.
You are not now, nor will you ever be, good enough to not die in this sport (Sparky)

I try to buy as much as possible local stuff, which means that very often I need to go shopping/purchasing at different places rather than in a convenient supermarket.
But I have good meat, good veggies & fruits (of the season) (I get almost killed by the missus if I buy an italian or french salad...), and for the inevitable imports, as much as possible fair-trade/bio etc etc... Turns out a little more expensive sometimes but not necessarily, and as we can afford the quality.... :)

dog and cat are legal here in Switz too, as long as they are not pets/domestic animals. But you can eat these animals if raised for food..
Apparently cat tastes like rabbit/hare.

I guess, it's just me. Having been around horses, just about all my life, I've been able to form a bond with them. Just not the same as with a cow or a chicken.

Cheaper in the long run since you're getting a lot more nutrition out of that food. B|

You have noooooooooooooooooooooooooo idea what goes into a sausage:ph34r::ph34r:

So true! It's usually a mishmash of various meats from who knows where except company executives. :o

However, the best sausage I've eaten is Conecuh Sausage, from down in southern Alabama. Good stuff.

Crockett & Tubbs are walking along the sidewalk, and encounter a hot dog vendor. Crockett stops and orders a hot dog.

Tubbs: "Man, I don't see how you can function with one of those tubes of mystery meat in your stomach."

Crockett: "You're right..." [turns back to vendor and holds up two fingers] "...make that *two*."

http://www.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2013/02/59-of-the-tuna-americans-eat-is-not-tuna/273410/

What's for dinner at your local sushi joint? Pretty much anything but what's on the menu.Oceana
•59% of the fish labeled "tuna" sold at restaurants and grocery stores in the US is not tuna.
•Sushi restaurants were far more likely to mislabel their fish than grocery stores or other restaurants.

•In Chicago, Austin, New York, and Washington DC, every single sushi restaurant sampled sold mislabeled tuna.
84% of fish samples labeled "white tuna" were actually escolar, a fish that can cause prolonged, uncontrollable, oily anal leakage.
•The only fish more likely to be misrepresented than tuna was snapper, which was mislabeled 87% of the time, and was in actuality any of six different species.

If you've ever wondered why the sushi in the display case is so affordable, given the dire state of the world's tuna supply, well, now you know.

One thing I love about seafood.. is that when I catch it.. I KNOW what species it is.. how its handled and cleaned.. and how its prepared. :)
