NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon's TV Commercial

Recommended Posts

Fake as hell, but still funny.

Why do I think it's fake? Cup holder.

Nice acting job by the "used car dealer" but there's no way he could have not known. Also, there's no way the insurance company for the commercial allows an unwaivered random person into a car about to do stunts like that.

Of course it's not on the level. It's TV. But yes it is funny as hell. :)
It reminds me of a joke some jumping friends always plotting but never went through on. You know where experienced jumpers would show up at an unfamiliar DZ to enroll in an AFF class and then bust into some freeflying maneuvers when the instructor is not holding on to them, Imagine Greg Gasson (under disguise) showing up and doing some of the crazy things he is known for doing in freefall to an unsuspecting AFF instructor. Of course I am sure the AFF instructor would not find this all that funny.

I do remember a story from years ago about a load organizer working with seemingly low jump newbies. Then they bang out a shit hot RW dive, and back on the ground he asks one of them, "okay how many jumps do you really have?" "Oh about 3000" :D

I find it odd that they would do that kind of commercial. I though that all the racers were about promoting safe and responsible driving and not speeding around like that.

Not notice the 'professional driver on a closed course' disclaimer?

not to mention let's say you go ahead and use an uninformed person. Jeff puts the hammer down and the guy has a heart attack and dies. Jackpot!

I didn't notice and even after re-watching it didn't notice it.

Did you notice the humor in the commercial?

If you didn't laugh or even giggle while watching it, something is seriously wrong with you. :P

Its not that. It just seems that nowadays everything is overtly politically correct and everybody needs to 'behave' and there is always some health&safety person whining if something out of the ordinary happens, so I was just surprised that a NASCAR driver would take part in a commercial that on the face of it seems to promote 'reckless' driving.

I don't have the URL with me, but in a motorsports forum I sometimes go to, this commercial is a big hit over there and it turns out Jeff Gordon didn't even do the stunt driving. The stunt driving for this commercial was done by some instructor of the Jim Rutherford Racing school (or something like that).

My wife and I are big fans of NASCAR and found the commercial hilarious. It sure gets your attention, I thought it was well done. After all, it was just a well done commercial and sure to be a classic.
