yoink 321 #1 April 4, 2013 http://friends.banksophilia.com/ Bad news man. Iain M Banks, a massive contributor to the sci-fi genre of writing is dying of gall bladder cancer. While he's not my favorite sci-fi writer, I have thoroughly enjoyed most of his books and would recommend most of them to anyone interested in that type of fiction. MikeJD 0 #2 April 4, 2013 I've never considered how well-known he is outside of the UK. Of course, he's not just a sci-fi writer - he's written many other novels as just plain 'Iain Banks' (apparently publishers suggested he add the middle initial for his sci-fi works because it made him sound 'more American'). His first novel, which I remember reading at the time, was The Wasp Factory. It caused quite a stir. Certainly an extremely creative guy with tremendous imagination. Malta_Dog 0 #3 April 4, 2013 I had enjoyed reading 'The Bridge' more than 20 years ago and I've just rediscovered his works with 'The Algebraist' which I'm finishing. I liked it so much that I've already bought the first of his 'Culture' novels... Wishing him the best... All your dropzone are belong to us!!!!111!
