ianmdrennan 2 #1 April 17, 2013 So, I'm a huge comic book fan - but never really liked Superman as a character (boring and not flawed). I'm digging this new direction http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6DJcgm3wNY&feature=player_embedded Enjoy (if this kinda stuff is your thing)Performance Designs Factory Team
mistercwood 287 #2 April 17, 2013 One of several movies I'm very much looking forward to this year. I actually quite liked Superman Returns, as it happens - I really think it was underrated for the way it approached him more in his nature and experience as an alien, rather than his 'super-humanness'...You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. ianmdrennan 2 #3 April 17, 2013 Yeah, I don't think Superman Returns nearly deserves the panning it got. it did suffer from too much 'homage' to the Donner original and never really had it's own identity but wasn't a terrible movie by any means. It also highlighted the Superman character flaw in that he's unable to relate to. This new path makes his character all that more relatable. Struggling to fit in, struggling to find his place in the world, just wanting to be 'normal'. These are concepts the audience can sink their teeth into, relate to, and ultimately care a lot more about the character (IMO). mistercwood 287 #4 April 17, 2013 I'd agree.... Spacey did a great job as Luthor, but it was clear they were still trying to keep a lot of the 'slapstick' nature of Hackman's take on it, rather than letting him really get evil (which he's better at imo). I just really loved the "aloneness" of Singer's character... but I'm sure I'll enjoy this one even more, these days I tend to prejudge a movie based on who's directing rather than starring. You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. ianmdrennan 2 #5 April 17, 2013 Funny you should say that. I was REALLY expecting a disaster with Zach Snyder at the helm. I thought "this will look pretty but have no depth or life". The Watchmen was a great and faithful adaptation but it wasn't exciting and lacked a 'spark', and Suckerpunch was a distaster as a movie. Then, when I heard Nolan was involved from a script point of view I got a lot more interested. Now....I can't wait (and I don't recall ever being excited about a Superman movie) Performance Designs Factory Team
mistercwood 287 #6 April 17, 2013 I liked Watchmen, really enjoyed 300, but yeah I forgot about Suckerpunch. Looked amazing, but I was bored shitless less than an hour in, never bothered to finish it.You are playing chicken with a planet - you can't dodge and planets don't blink. Act accordingly.
