Texas fertilizer plant explosion

Recommended Posts

McVeigh used commercially available Ammonium Nitrate. I could even tell you the brand he used.

All the news about the West incident indicate it was a tank full of Anhydrous Ammonia that created the explosion (of course, THAT could be wrong too).

Yeah, probably more than half the structures in the entire town with blown-out windows.

No. Half the structures in town have significant damage, the other half are also damaged.

You've got to see the photos to believe it, the damage is staggering.

Is the hospital still usable?

I haven't heard that it isn't being used, except that most injuries have been transported to Waco.

I just heard on the radio that Bryan and CS are sending reinforcements there.

Does that mean fire and LEO?

Or is it just the TEEX and SAR?

TEEX, SAR and I heard that BFD is sending their honor guard to take the burden of planning the memorial/funerals for the firefighters that were killed. Haven't heard past that (yet), but I'm sure over the next couple of days we'll be hearing about more.

It appears now that among the missing/dead in Texas are 11 people from fire and EMS. This includes off-duty Dallas Fire-Rescue Captain Kenny Harris, who was a resident of West. Here is information from two reports-

Bill Goldfeder at The Secret List - While not official (we consider "official" based upon what is posted by USFA/NFFF) - details from reliable and involved fire service leadership at the scene in West, Texas (20 miles north of Waco) are indicating that, at this time it appears that: 5 West Firefighters, 4 EMS Medics, 1 Off Duty Fire Captain from Dallas (who was in town at the time and was assisting) and 1 unconfirmed (unknown agency at this point) Firefighter have been killed in the Line of Duty. Active search and rescue operations are continuing.

From the Dallas Morning News website - Lt. Joel Lavender, a Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman, confirmed that Capt. Kenny Harris, who lives in West, is also missing. Lavender did not know when there was last contact with Harris

They did a good job on our lost ones just recently. [:/]
