Nataly 38 #1 August 6, 2013 Was riding to work this morning and my chain slipped off and locked the back wheel of my little Ninja... Ok, ok... Not "near-death" as I was going about 2mph and nothing actually happened... Serves me right for not changing my chain sooner... Managed to coax it back on (with much grunting and dirtying of hands), tightened it up as much as possible (which wasn't much)... Took it into the garage to get a new chain (and sprockets, et cetera)... D'oh... Oh well... Thankful it didn't happen on the highway "There is no problem so bad you can't make it worse." - Chris Hadfield « Sors le martinet et flagelle toi indigne contrôleuse de gestion. » - my boss

ryoder 1,590 #3 August 6, 2013 Have you been checking the chain slack per the manual? For my Versys 650 (with detuned Ninja engine) that is prescribed for a 600 mile interval."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. I was regularly checking and the last time I tightened the nuts pretty much to the last notch and it still had just a wee bit too much slack... It's one of those things... I had booked an appointment to have it replaced and then needed the bike that day so I cancelled... That was a couple of months ago Just this weekend I was thinking I really shouldn't put it off any longer. Like I said... Serves me right...
