Bodies and Cars Found In an Oklahoma Lake

Recommended Posts

I was reading up on this and checking maps yesterday.
I'm really curious if this was accidental, or criminal.

It got me thinking:
How many lakes are there in the country that are deep enough to hide a car, but never get dived? It could make an interesting hobby to go from lake to lake with a small boat, sonar unit, and scuba gear, checking them all out.

OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK -- DNA tests have confirmed that human bones found near the wreckage of a 1929 car accident in Lake Crescent belong to Russell Warren.

Warren and his wife, Blanch, were en route from Port Angeles to their Bogachiel-area logging camp when they disappeared in July 1929. Their car, which plunged off what is now U.S. Route 101 near Meldrim Point, was found in April 2002, in more than 170 feet of water.

DNA samples from the skeletal remains recovered in December were matched to Warren's niece

We have some DEEP lakes out here..

WOW! I wonder if they have any next of kin still alive that actually knew them? Just wow.

ETA: I saw the article said DNA from his niece but I wonder if she's young, elderly, etc.
Always be kinder than you feel.

Uh, right.:P
But it was only one year old when it went in the lake, so it can't have many miles on it.:D

OW,

While this incident would seemingly involve foul-play, folks going missing only later to be found in their car doesn't take a lake to happen.

I've lived in the southwest for more than a few years now and can remember two stories of folks going missing only to be found years later in thier car out at some remote place in the desert somewhere. One incident was a singal individual that evendently went off road and over an embakment (cliff) with enough of a drop to (unfortunately) kill him, but not so bad as the car burst into flames (happens in the movie all the time, right?). He wasn't found until years latter a private pilot in a small aircraft was flying low over the area, spotted the car and reported it, thinking it was a recent accident, after returning to a local airport to land. The car couldn't have been more that a few hundred yards off of an improved (paved) road. The other incident involved a family that was known to have been out in the desert, went missing, but where never found. Years later some hiker found them and their car strandid in a remote area, way off road. They were still in their car and evidently died of dehydration. This was many years before every one had a GPS and the theory was they got lost and tired to go offroad to get back to civilization, but ended up more lost and strandid. Doesn't take long to mort in the desert heat.

What I found interesting is that the cars were found next to each other but facing in opposite directions. They were far enough away from the (current) marina that driving them and launching them would have been difficult, to say the least.

I'm assuming that full forensics will check out the remains to check for foul play. Although, after this long ..... Who knows?

If anybody here runs across the results of what they find in the next few months or years, please post and let us know.
