JohnnyMarko 1 #1 October 14, 2013 So I got tomorrow off and rumor has it (well, it's fact) that the High Noon run is open at A-Basin Ski Area...I'm a Breck n Vail regular, never touched A-Basin, but I'm really itchin to get the riding season going.... I'm only about an hour n 15 mins away, and I got tomorrow off...worth it? Or no? HEY THANKKKKS!
ryoder 1,590 #2 October 14, 2013 High Noon is just a nice intermediate run. A word of caution about A-Basin: The upper half is above the tree line. NEVER ski/ride the upper half in a blinding snow-storm. I did that once, and got the worst case of vertigo ever. No trees to tell me where the edges of the slopes were; As soon as I started moving, I had no idea how fast I was going, or where the hell I was. Skied right off the edge, went weightless, then crashed in a heap. To this day I have no idea exactly where that happened, nor how far I fell, since I couldn't see a damned thing. In retrospect, it was funny, (since I didn't get hurt), but I won't do it again. JohnMitchell 16 #4 October 14, 2013 Damn, all my years of skiing in Utah I never spent time above the treeline. That's damn spooky, what you're talking about.

I'd never had vertigo before. I was OK while I was standing still, but as soon as I started moving, I lost all reference."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones. JohnnyMarko 1 #6 October 14, 2013 Not a bad day off....got up to the slopes right when the lifts open, got 8-9 runs in before it started gettin too skiied out to have any fun....very early season conditions, but hey, a day riding is better than a day not riding. ETA: Photos are tiny as sheet, but you get the idea.
