oldwomanc6 60 #1 November 29, 2013 Brined and smoked a turkey breast, made green bean casserole with homemade cream of mushroom soup, carrots, mashed potatoes with chicken gravy, and pumpkin meringue pie. Good food, and NO DRAMA! I call that a good holiday, how about yours?lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB
ryoder 1,590 #2 November 29, 2013 I tried smoking a turkey breast once, but I just couldn't keep it lit. "There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
oldwomanc6 60 #3 November 29, 2013 You didn't cook it long enough to dry it out thoroughly. You should have had your mother cook it for you. That way it would stay lit.lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB

skymama 37 #8 November 29, 2013 Your dinner sounds great, and no drama is always good! We had leftover turkey from 2 weeks ago (it had been in the freezer), instant mashed potatoes and a steamer bad of mixed vegies. Oh, and I had a Reese's Cup for dessert. BUT, we also hiked to 4 waterfalls today and saw a spectacular sunset over the GA mountains, so food wasn't a priority. We are enjoying wine (me) and beer (Normiss) in our camper right now though. FlyingRhenquest 1 #10 November 29, 2013 Not to bad. My room mate had several guests lined up but only 1 actually showed up. I'd invited a couple of skydivers I know, but they had other plans already. Despite the fact that it was only 3 of us, we still managed to somehow use every plate in the house The turkey came out fantastic as always. I brine and prepare it with Alton Brown's "Good Eats Roast Turkey" recipe, which I've been using ever since I saw that episode back in the mid 00lies, and it has never, ever failed me. It looks like a reasonably nice day out today so I'm going to go out and get some coffee to counteract the last of the tryptophane in my system and then try to knock out 2 or 3 skydives. I'm trying to teach myself how to set things on fire with my mind. Hey... is it hot in here?

NWFlyer 2 #13 November 29, 2013 No drama here, either. Just a nice day with my boyfriend and my (visiting) parents. Ran down to Whole Foods early morning to pick up a box that contained all of the fixings, just heat & eat. Went to a matinee of Philomena around noon (good flick, and Dame Judi rocks as always). Chilled out for a bit then heated up the ham & sauce, sweet potato mash, broccoli/cheddar gratin, and dinner rolls. Easy prep, easy cleanup. Let dinner settle then cooked up a frozen apple pie, and also had the amazing pumpkin pie that came with the dinner (I'm not usually a huge pumpkin pie fan, but I gotta give Whole Foods props for the best one I've ever had... so good that I've already negotiated a trade with my mom of my remaining share of the apple pie for another slice of the pumpkin ) "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. Shoveled a little bit of snow in the morning and hung out with a few friends for a while in the evening.j Not much family around here for me, and I do stuff for and with my mom on a regular basis. I don't need a "Calendar Holiday for it. I'm pretty much orphaned at this point so I was alone all day. Went to a friend's house at 7pm. We drank wine and watched football. A married couple he's friends with, I'd met them once last year when I met them all for drinks, showed up unexpectedly at his house. They were highly entertaining, shit faced drunk. The wife kept saying very loudly, "You two were going to have sex, weren't you?". "We're leaving so you two can go have sex." "You'd be perfect for him. Why don't you guys date?" Ummmmmmm NO(this was the I was the one that got away dude). I was actually getting up to leave when they got there. I stayed, we all drank a few bottles of wine, I ended up staying over since there was no way I could drive at that point. I met a new drink I really liked. It was Fireball and Bailey's. Don't remember what it was called but I think that was what put me over into numb face territory. I'm in a funk still today. And cranky. Always be kinder than you feel. I woke up surprised I wasn't hurting big time considering I was drinking on an empty stomach like a total amateur. And I was corrected. That magnificent drink was Fireball and Rum Chata. De-lishhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Too good!! Beer before wine, feeling fine. Wine before liquor, never sicker. Have you ever been in a bar with friends and before ordering had to confirm the sayings? LOL...
