She said she'd pay $8 an hour. :(

Hell - I'd throw in Xmas presents and everything just to help her out. As long as she keeps certain "family members" in line.:)

I hope the story's ending ends up as good as it looks like it might. She's gotten so many responses from people saying they were in the same boat (along with plenty of offers to come spend Christmas with families), that she's decided to make a Christmas celebration with all the forgotten ones.

A woman with a great mission.

There is nothing more dangerous than breaking a basic safety rule and getting away with it. It removes fear of the consequences and builds false confidence. (tbrown)

I'll tell you, there's a part of me that almost feels guilty for thinking like this but you hear so many bs stories these days. Scammers pulling on people's heart strings to get over.
Gay waitress story comes to mind.
Why would I not be suprised if she comes from a good home, dads a dentist, brothers and sisters and she's the only one who went astray.
Maybe this story won't turn out that way...

What you just wrote is almost word for word of what went through my mind when I first read it. But, for many reasons, I choose to believe it's not BS. I worked around so many people who grew up in circumstances such as hers and I could always "feel" their pain, so to speak. I had such a great upbringing with my Dad it kills me to hear of people who missed out on having that joy and love.

Maybe I'm just getting soft in my old age? If it turns out it is BS, like the waitress story around here, then I guess I still have that naive quality and that's ok.

I don't like seeing anyone have it hard and be lonely either....especially during the holidays. That being said, going on craigslist looking to rent a family and crying a sad song looks like a pitch for hand outs.
If this girl really had it hard, went to prison, got out, turned it all around blah blah blah, you would tend to think that there was some sort of support group helping her succeed. Otherwise she probably would have ended up going back to what she knew and the people she knew.
To think she did it all on her own and has not a single person to turn to seems like a little bit of a stretch.
Ill tell you, truckstops are magnets for hustlers with sad stories. They prey on truckers and travelers. It's always the same story...they broke down traveling cross country with their babies in the car and need money to get the car fixed, they ran out of gas ...with their babies in the car, women will tell you their husbands beat them up and drove off without them...
I could go on and on. They use their kids as props,...
You feel bad because somewhere along the line I'm sure someone really did need help but when you hear the same stories day in and day out you get numb to them.
I think unless your a complete screw up, everyone has someone they can call for help. If your a woman, standing in a truck stop parking lot, and your story is your boy friend just beat you up and left you stranded and your only option is to knock on truck doors begging for money then I think it's pretty safe to say there's more to the story.
I guess well just have to wait to see how this one plays out....

I've seen far too many of these memes to believe any of them anymore. I consider all of them bullshit until proven otherwise. For some it sucks that I have to that cynical, but I've been snowed too many times.

Besides, when you're a cynical bastard like me, you get immune form bullshit artists, infomercials and other forms of mass hysteria. It's a good place to be.
Skydivers don't knock on Death's door. They ring the bell and runaway... It really pisses him off.

I was like that for many, many, many years. I used to think working in a court around the worst in people (a lot of the time) ruined my trust of the good in people and made me so cynical that I didn't believe one word out of anyone's mouth. If you told me the sky was blue you could bet your ass I was going to look for myself for confirmation.

I'm trying to work my way out of that. It's hard and it's taken a lot of work but I'm slowly seeing that not everyone is a liar, cheat, thief or has an agenda or ulterior motive.
Always be kinder than you feel.

I dunno 8 $ an hour is pretty cheap money to case the joint and then come in later and get some return on the investment. If you'd organize it nicely you'd probably manage to go through at least 3 to 6 places in a night and most likely they'd tell you all about their personal shit and their holidays plans(when they're not in home) etc.
Your rights end where my feelings begin.
