LuckyMcSwervy 0 #1 December 25, 2013 Today I caught the noon showing of The Wolf of Wall Street. Overall, I thought it was a pretty good, albeit a bit long at almost 3 hours, movie that really glamorized sexual and drug excesses that come with money to burn. I like Martin Scorcese films but I'm not a big Leonardo DiCaprio fan. Jonah Hill was fantastic. Sorry, but I'm no Siskel or Ebert. That's all I got. Always be kinder than you feel. quade 4 #2 December 25, 2013 Screened this last week and thought it was a joke the MPAA gave this an R-rating. This is precisely the sort of film the NC-17 rating was designed for. It's not pornographic, but it's far beyond what any kid should be incidentally exposed to by some knucklehead parent who decides to take their kid to the theater rather than leave them at home with a baby sitter. On the opposite end of the scale "Frozen" is rated PG for some asinine reason. Back to this film . . . Jonah Hill is is awesome. The film is WAY too long for the amount of story it actually contains. To me it looked as if it was specifically designed to be cut down later (for airplanes and broadcast TV) with the over-the-top nudity and sex scenes looking like they can just be pulled out with no ill affects to the overall story. So one sort of does have to ask why they're there to begin with other than pandering and shock value. I ultimately didn't find the film satisfying for a very basic storytelling reason that has nothing to do with the sex, but to detail that here would be to spoil it for others. I'm sure this will be popular with a certain segment of the audience, but I hope to god it's not used as justification for a new breed of Gordon Gekko wannabes.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
LuckyMcSwervy 0 #3 December 25, 2013 You just said a lot of what I was having a hard time putting into words. I was planning on seeing American Hustle after TWOWS was over but my back was killing me from sitting for so long. Maybe tomorrow night. Always be kinder than you feel. BIGUN 1,488 #5 December 26, 2013 Anything with Leonardo DiCaprio in it does not warrant more than 30 seconds of my time. Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
