davjohns 1 #51 December 26, 2013 I've built bookcases and such. I don't have the patience you have, though. Very nice work. I've mounted a few antique Japanese swords. Made some of the metal parts and all of the wood. I've made a few knives from scratch.I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet.. But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.
JohnMitchell 16 #52 December 26, 2013 davjohns I've made a few knives from scratch. That's a cool craft. There's a custom knife shop on the way to the DZ that I've heard has a pretty good rep. Bookcases and furniture, I've built a bit. I make a mean chest of drawers and do okay on cabinets. My other two specialties are reloading ammo and cooking meat. Made a great prime rib for dinner today, easier than anyone thinks. Especially proud of my slow smoked ribs with the secret spice rub.

As I am proud of my barbecue beef brisket. Everything from scratch, everything made with tequila. Goes nicely with the tequila cake I bake at the same time! I have a few other go-to dishes, depending on the timeline and the guest list. However this evening I'm making three kinds of breads (applesauce, zucchini and pumpkin). I've done one or two, nothing amazing yet but working on it. I need to experiment around with it a little.

J-S 0 #59 December 27, 2013 JerryBaumchenHi J-S, You are one talented fella. I am envious. So just how did you get the 'tree' look on that stand? JerryBaumchen Thanks. I used an 8/4 (2") mohogany slab. Drew the tree pattern on the slab and used a plunge router set to a certain depth so I had a universal depth where the tree wasn't going to be. Left the tree pattern there (raised up), rounded over what I could with a round over bit, then dremeled the rest to take away from the machined rough look. Then sanded it all. Easy enough to do, just tedious work trying to do a 3-D look.

quade 4 #68 January 3, 2014 Just got this up and running correctly this afternoon. It's an Arduino based GPS lock (currently on a breadboard). The idea is it would lock a box which can only be opened at a specific location. The last time I coded anything was over 30 years ago and just started fooling around with Arduinos about a month ago. I'm simply amazed at the tools available today. While this is designed to be a GPS lock, this could just as easily be an auto-pilot steering mechanism for a boat or plane. I'm sort of amazed this technology is this easy to whip up sitting in my living room.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver
