BillyVance 35 #26 December 24, 2013 I grew up in Huntsville, Alabama, and have lived in Birmingham in the past, and currently live somewhere between Birmingham and Anniston, so it came as no surprise when I got Birmingham, Montgomery and Jackson MS, on the 2nd try. The first one threw me off because I got Birmingham, Winston Salem and Greensboro NC. WTF? Figured it was because I answered "soft drink". I changed it to "coke" plus a couple other minor changes."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
Andy9o8 2 #27 December 24, 2013 Andy9o8Bullseye - mostly from where I grew up (especially pronunciation), combined with a couple of terms from where I've spent most of my adult life, and a little bit influenced by my parents, who grew up still elsewhere. I then twiddled around with it a couple of times, adjusting a few things that fall into "grey areas" for me. Still quite accurate.
lawrocket 3 #28 December 24, 2013 LuckyMcSwervy ******Philadelphia, Baltimore, Newark/Paterson. Pretty much. I think "mischief night" locked it up for me. I saw this on FB. It listed me as Oceanside, Sacramento and Santa Rosa. Oceanside I can see. It listed my exact opposite as Philly. Same with my wife. You and she really must learn to speak appropriately. It's "orange" and not "arnge." "I saw it" not "I sawlit." Your lovely wife and I grew up within about 5 miles of each other. I have no accent and I actually pronounce words correctly. I hear people pronounce words as you have written them and it makes my skin crawl. Those are seriously the only two things she'll say that is a giveaway. Had she had a North Jersey, NYC or Long Island yenta accent we wouldn't be married. My wife is hotter than your wife.

Some Central New Jersey people have it too but even they don't like to admit it. And this comes from a girl whose dear Dad said "Ter-lido" for Toledo. TriGirl 343 #30 December 24, 2013 Rickgot me right on in Detroit. I think the Devil's night reference pretty much narrows it down I think that's why it couldn't figure me out! Idaho doesn't have a separate word for that night, but Detroit does. And some of my other pronunciations and now word choices are products of where I was living when I first heard of the concept (such as "roundabout.")See the upside, and always wear your parachute! -- Christopher Titus Shut Up & Jump! Baksteen 84 #33 December 25, 2013 jimmytavino ***Just for a lark... Yonkers / Jersey City / New York. Amazing that the city triangle is so small! Then again, I've been to none of these places and had never even heard of Yonkers or Jersey City. I was listed as Yonkers, New York and Paterson NJ.....pretty similar to yours, Baksteen. I spent my first 18 years, an hour or so North of NYC....so it's accurate for me... I've been (bin) in western NY for 42 years but have managed NOT to assimilate the phrasing and dialect of Buffalo or Roch. and I can always identify a person here, who is native to the New Yawwwk City /Brooklyn/Long Island area...jmy So, er... wolfriverjoe 1,523 #41 December 25, 2013 It put me in Madison WI, Overland Park Mo and Wichita. I was born in Ohio, moved to Wisconsin (near Green Bay) in 2nd grade and have lived here ever since. I liked how the quiz would locate the previous answer. Notables: Terrace (the grass between sidewalk and street) is very much localized to Northeast Wisconsin. Gapers Block (people slowing down to look at an accident) is very much localized to Chicago - That's where I know it from. I think part of it is that I travel around the country and talk with a lot of different people. I pick up a bit of slang here & there. The question about "What do you call a "Drive Through Liquor Store" I had to answer "I've never heard of that," even though I've seen them. Nobody from around here knows they exist. Which is probably a good thing, the way we drink. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
