Vertigo

Recommended Posts

I grounded myself about a year ago because I was staring to get spacial disorientation. It has progressed into full blow vertigo. I control it with Meclazine and the circus moves balancing on my head to realign the ears seems to help but not fix it so I'm getting frustrated.

Anyone else dealing with Vertigo and have any advice?

I did a little tunnel time last week and I thought I was gonna puke.

The Epley Maneuver, named after John Epley, M.D., is a well accepted treatment for benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) that aligns the ear crystals (otoconia) in your balance system.

Just went to the doctor on Tuesday for vertigo. Sounds like mine isn't quite as bad as yours though.

The doctor had a few recommendations... first a strong antihistamine. I've been somewhat congested and she said long term congestion can have an affect on your inner ear (balance).

Second... if you haven't already, go to YouTube and look up Dix-HallPike Test and Epley's Maneuver. While I initially had a bad episode right after I did Epley's, the next day I felt somewhat better. You're basically trying to reset the "rocks" that are in your inner ear.

Reduce stress... I laughed when she said this. It's not realistic at the moment for me!

Headed to the tunnel in two weeks and I'm a little nervous about it.

Good luck. I know it SUCKS.

I'll be darned.
When I was seeing a PT a year ago, she mentioned something about having recently helped such a patient, but didn't give me any details on what the treatment was.

I've grounded myself for the same "reason". I say "reason" in quotes because for others to easily understand or to avoid a long, drawn out explanation, I say it's my vertigo. I actually have lesions on my brain that cause my issues and it's not inner ear related (and that came after years of it being treated like it was). I have Multiple Sclerosis.

I still have Antivert/meclazine/Dramamine that I can take when the dizziness starts. It doesn't do anything except make me sleepy so I can sometimes sleep through the worst of it. I've had it go on consistently for weeks. Sleeping on the floor sucks. So does trying to go up and down the stairs in the house. There's also times where there's no way I can drive.

Years ago I was referred to a balance center where the physical therapist and I would do all of these exercises and maneuvers that were designed to try to break up inner ear crystals. It didn't work for me but I've heard amazing things from friends who went through the same things and they swear it works if you keep up with the routine.

I really hope you can find a resolution that can knock it out of your life for good!! :)
