Your House Is On Fire...

***Well... I've been there. I didn't go inside because I didn't have magical powers. The things I've never stopped regretting losing are my family photo albums.

Me too...eight years ago got a call at work that the house was on fire. Sucked wholesale losing 20 years worth of pic's...sucked worse losing our cat Garcia.

Had a bunch of the pic's scanned and backed up on a disc...the disc in a drawer right under the PC ...that burned to the ground. Learned that lesson the hard way.

OMG... I'm so sorry. :(

I have a fire safe with a 16TB NAS in it that all my computers back up to, so no worries on data. I also keep all my old miniDV tapes, log books, and a bin with old greeting cards and keepsakes I've hung on to in there.

Everything else is insured, but I have a piece of artwork that would be difficult to replace so I'd probably grab that.

Thanks, Lucky. It's been 25+ years, so it doesn't *burn* much. It's just that scanning pics wasn't an option at the time, and I've learned over those 25 years that as long as the loved ones are safe, nothing else matters much... until you wish you could see that picture of your mom on your 5th birthday again. You can eventually get back almost anything else.

According to the philosopher Scott, "We don't need no water. Let the motherf-cker burn!"
I know it just wouldnt be right to kill all the stupid people that we meet..

But do you think it would be appropriate to just remove all of the warning labels and let nature take its course.

You're welcome. My mother has a bunch of family albums that I want but I doubt I'll ever see again in my life. I know the feeling of wanting to see those memories again. :(

***Your house is on fire. Your family and pets are all safely outside waiting for the fire department. Your home and it's entire contents are insured for full replacement value and then some. You won't be injured/killed/etc. (because you have some sort of magical powers or whatever you want to call them). You're allowed to pick up and take ONE THING out the front door to survive the flames. What is it?.

You would leave without your Makeup:o I hope sparky the retired Fire capt sees this post and comments

FYI we recently had this event that resulted in a tragic loss of life of the ER Dr and his son. What the article doesn't say is the house was 6500 sq ft.

This tragedy was a wake up call to the whole community, and some interesting things came out that we didn't know, smoke alarms need to be replaced every 10 yrs. Some of The new smoke alarms can be connected via wifi so if one goes off they all go off at the same time.

Fire and water and trucks will not be able to reach my house. We know that we have a 1/2 house fire rated safe in the basement where we keep all our pictures and other irreplaceable items.

Action plan bought 4 new smoke detectors when the alarms go off we grab the dogs and leave, the house will be gone.

Leave car keys in the car so we can drive off.

Privacy comes at a risk and my wife and I are willing to accept that risk.

IMO The tragedy at fox island would have been preventable if the whole family had a workable action plan. instead of just the adults.

Learn from this tragic incident, especially is you have children. Also don't assume you will be able to exit by the front door, have alternate exit plans

I don't care if I have to leave my house butt naked as long as I have my wife and dogs.

Discuss or ignore;)
