iowa 0 #1 February 8, 2014 ...and I couldn't be happier. I'm a construction superintendent and was seeing no more work coming after my current project so I put out some feelers, my boss got wind of that and decided that I should go. Awesome timing, my prospects have never looked better! I already have two interviews on Monday, and two major competitors bidding for me. Now we just need the weather to break so some projects can move forward. Life is good. Keith ''Always do sober what you said you would do drunk. TriGirl 343 #6 February 8, 2014 xsniper Congrats. One door closes .......... I think this was more of a case of, "when you start opening windows, the door often closes." However, when you were planning to choose which open window through which you wanted to exit, the closed door actually helps. ETA -- good luck, Keith! Croc 0 #7 February 8, 2014 I left my job after 18 years and never realized how bad I had it until I got my new job. There was a little bit of a rough spot for a couple of months, but I love my job now! Good luck on your new job. Anyone who would fire a good employee for merely looking to improve his situation is probably not worth much as a boss. A good boss would have sat down with you and tried to see what he could do to keep you. Good riddance!"Here's a good specimen of my own wisdom. Something is so, except when it isn't so." iowa 0 #12 February 8, 2014 OK, technically ''laid off'', but not because of lack of work. The result for me is the same. Really looking forward to Monday, one scheduled interview and I'll stop by a few others that I have been talking to and try to push for a face to face with the bosses. Southern_Man 0 #13 February 9, 2014 Iago***Fired or Laid Off .... there's a difference over here. Fired/Sacked = you did something wrong Laid Off = no work left to do or company went south Resigned = you decided to leave There's not a real difference over here. You can get fired/sacked for no reason over here. Laid off is often a cop-out by management that has no real reason to justify firing you to HR, so they give you severance in exchange for an agreement not to sue the company. There is a difference if you need to rely on unemployment benefits to get you through a period w/ no work. If you are laid off due to lack of work you will qualify for those benefits. If you are fired for cause (e.g. poor attendance) then you will not qualify."What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
iowa 0 #14 February 12, 2014 Hitting the bricks and beating the bushes. All totaled about seven resumes delivered plus an another ten phone calls out. Day one went pretty much as expected with two short ''interviews''. At least I got some face time with the people that do the hiring and one offer that could turn out decent. Not where I want to land but an offer that that I can leverage. Day two had some pretty good leads that might go somewhere. One could be really good, there is so much work here once the weather breaks. Next couple of days is waiting for the contractor that I want to work for to call for an interview (almost certain) and then the offer. I think I'll take tomorrow off.
