oldwomanc6 60 #26 April 25, 2014 mrowc6 and I lived mostly off base, as that was better, both financially, and the fact that the Marine Corp had/has the worst housing of all the services. The only time we lived on base was on Hawaii (Kaneohe), which at the time, was managed by the Army. FWIW, when mrowc6 was a 2nd Lt., he was earning a whopping $11,000 a year. Much less than the civilian sector. No one signs on (and signs away most, if not all, civil rights) for the money. Certainly not the 10% at random business establishments.lisa WSCR 594 FB 1023 CBDB
normiss 897 #27 April 25, 2014 Must have been for the coupons then. Low pay, crappy food, crappy quarters, yelled at by idiots, forced to buy your own uniforms, risking life and limb, working 10 hour days, ad nauseum. 10% discounts at 6 places in town is a deal. turtlespeed 226 #28 April 26, 2014 We . . . the Company . . . do not shop at Home Depot anymore. I do, however; write letters with attachments to copies of my receipts for products I purchase at Lowes. Those receipts usually total about 4k per month. I feel satisfied every time I hit send. HD's policies are shitty. I'm not usually into the whole 3-way thing, but you got me a little excited with that. - Skymama BTR #1 / OTB^5 Official #2 / Hellfish #408 / VSCR #108/Tortuga/Orfun
Niki1 2 #29 April 27, 2014 Boogers Home Depot quote: "The Company offers a 10 percent discount, up to a $500 maximum, to all active, reserve, retired or disabled veterans and their family members with a valid military ID. All other military veterans will qualify for a 10 percent discount during normal patriotic holidays (e.g., Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Independence Day)." Source: http://www.homedepotfoundation.org/page/the-home-depot-foundation-pledges-$30-million-to-veterans-housing-issues And they're giving $30 million to housing for Veterans. That's not chump change. Lowe's policy, for comparison: "Lowe's established the 10% Military Discount to support the men and women who are currently serving our country in the Armed Services and to honor Retired Veterans and VA Recipients. This 10% discount is also extended to the immediate family of those who are currently serving, Retired Veterans, or VA Recipients. We honor all Veterans on three specific holidays: Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day. "Source (scroll to the bottom): http://www.lowes.com/cd_In-Store+Services_745829091_#! I don't see any difference between the two. So those of you who are mad at Home Depot and go to Lowe's instead, what are you accomplishing? Lowe's won't give a discount to non-active non-retired non-disabled former servicemen either, from what I see. . I'm a regular part time employee at Lowe's and I work on a cash register. (Raeford Rd. in Fayetteville) If our doors are open, we give the military discount to anyone with an ID card. Active, retired, dependent, VA what ever you've got. All day every day. I've never seen any of the check out pwople question or hassle any card holder. Maybe it's because this is an Army town but all of us appreciate the jobs they do and have done. Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossilbe before they were done.
