normiss 897 #1 May 22, 2014 Am I the only one bothered by the approach to Memorial Day? "Happy Memorial Day" or "Celebrate Memorial Day" bothers the piss out of me. This isn't about celebration of anything IMO.

BillyVance 35 #3 May 22, 2014 To me, its a day to take some time to remember those who died for our freedom. Visit a cemetary's military section, tidy things up, etc. Then go out and enjoy your freedom."Mediocre people don't like high achievers, and high achievers don't like mediocre people." - SIX TIME National Champion coach Nick Saban
TEB6363 0 #4 May 22, 2014 Our Boy Scout troop goes and helps at the Memorial Day lunch at the local Memorial District Hall.. Yep, the Veterans are Happy to see the scouts and the scouts Celebrate what these Veterans gave for our country.. Now, yes, there is prayer and rememberance for those who died - so don't get too mad at us... Once the plane takes off, you're gonna have to land - Might as well jump out!! We celebrate and honor those who gave their lives for our freedom.

normiss 897 #10 May 23, 2014 We all just received an email from our CEO and I think it's perfect. To those whom much is given, much is expected in return. These words have often been quoted by Presidents and other leaders throughout our history, and they ring as true today as they ever have. We have been provided with many great blessings, not the least of which is our freedom. In return, I know we all believe we owe a lot to those who have protected and defended our democracy. Memorial Day is set aside as a day to honor the men and women who have given their lives on behalf of our nation. It is also a time to remember our loved ones and re-dedicate ourselves to honoring the sacrifices of war veterans, who have shaped the American Dream for all of us. As we gather this weekend with family and friends to celebrate the beginning of summer, I hope you will join me in remembering those, both past and present, who have blessed and enriched our lives and especially those who have sacrificed so dearly. Sounds like you have a CEO with his/her head on straight. It's never been easy for me to keep my composure during the last roll call. Always some survivors guilt with it. Many of the people out there that sacrificed it all were far better than I will ever be."I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
rifleman 70 #17 May 27, 2014 I looked this up a while ago because, as a member of the Royal British Legion, we hear the fourth verse used so often but I just wanted to know the rest of the poem. For The Fallen With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free. Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres, There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears. They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted; They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England's foam. But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night; As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain; As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain.
