NSEMN8R 0 #1 October 20, 2004 My buddy jumped a skydiving rig at Bridgeday. He landed in the river. He was only in there for a minute and we took the cypres out right away when he got out. It powers up and counts down normally. Think it's ok? Anybody know how much it costs to send it to SSK just to have them look at it? It was a borrowed rig from a very new jumper. I'd rather not give it back if there's a chance it won't fire if it needs to... Thanks for any thoughts on this.
riggerrob 643 #2 October 20, 2004 Sounds like you dried it out before any damage was done. If you are still worried, gently open the battery compartment and inspect the inside. If the battery connector plug has shorted out, you will see soot, melted plastic, etc. ... like on the flooded Cypres 1 that I was asked to inspect early this year. We just told the guy to buy another Cypres and did not even bother to insure it when we mailed it to SSK, as no-one expected the unit to be repairable. If the Cypres does its usual start-up outine, then it is safe to jump.
SkymonkeyONE 4 #3 October 20, 2004 Agreed. My original CYPRES has been in the water a few times, both turned on and turned off. My rig was never in the water long enough for it to get anything but moist. I pulled it out after I was done jumping, wiped it off, let it sit for a few minutes, then ran a functions check. All OK, Jumpmaster. The unit has been sent off for a four year since then and SSK found no problems whatsoever. Maybe I am just lucky, but now I simply don't sweat it at all.
