riggerrob 643 #1 August 24, 2014 A hypothetical courier company decides that it can turn a profit while hauling skydivers, so it buys up a bunch of DZs and starts making them operate more efficiently. What sort of changes do you anticipate?
quade 4 #2 August 24, 2014 I anticipate them going out of business fairly quickly. The only "courier company" involved with a drop zone was the basis for a couple of movies and did, in fact, make one hell of a drop zone with the profits, but other than running these very special types of "courier" operations (running "special" cargo) I do not see how the two businesses are in any way compatible. Besides which, what made the cargo "special" is now largely, legally available, so the profit motive might not be there any more.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

quade 4 #4 August 24, 2014 riggerrobHow about if the hypothetical courier company supplied a large market like Target retail or MacDonalds restaurant and just hauled skydivers as a side line? It doesn't make any freakin' sense. The two businesses are incompatible for a number of reasons. It's a bit like asking a question about NASA making chocolate chip cookies as a side business. Not quite as extreme as that example, but still ridiculous.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

skyjumpenfool 2 #6 August 24, 2014 It's so hard to get skydivers to play, but, how about this.... We now have tracking numbers for each jump we make. wolfriverjoe 1,523 #7 August 24, 2014 Well, manifest would soon consist of barcode readers and conveyor belts. It would, however drive the pilots crazy. During the week, they'd fly all night and sleep all day. On the weekends, they'd fly all day and sleep all night. It would screw them up enough that sooner or later, they'd deliver a load of jumpers to Chicago (or somewhere) or go straight up to 14k and turn on the red & green lights, then wonder why all the boxes didn't jump out. And why are you doing all these "hypothetical" threads? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
