contract award for phone upgrade at post office

Recommended Posts

there was a lawsuit and the contract was finally awarded to upgrade the phones at the usps. i was wondering if there was a way to find out who got the contract. i tried searching two databases, but there are over 5000 pages of results. i can narrow the results, but have no information to narrow them with. since it was the subject of a lawsuit, i assume the information is out there, but need help with where to go look. maybe i am just looking for another excuse to put off doing my schoolwork.

Hi 13,

Quote

i was wondering if there was a way to find out who got the contract.

It has been 15 yrs since I retired but I did spend 30 yrs in US gov't contracting.

It depends. If it was a strictly Low Bid contract then that should be public knowledge. If it was a negotiated contract then that information is not public knowledge.

Just some more info:

- A straight Low Bid means that all of the bidders must comply with all of the conditions of the contract.

- A negotiated contract means that the bidders can offer something other than what is described in the RFP. In other words, two different bidders may be competing for contracts that are not equal.

If you can find the RFP ( Request for Proposals ) number and/or the IFB ( Invitation for Bids ) number then you might find out what you want.

And all of this may have changed since I retired.

PS) It might be worth a letter to your congress critter and see what they might do for you.

thanx for the info. i don't have any of that info, however. i do know that two companies had it tied up in court for years, and it was just recently awarded to one of them. i cannot remember who it was, and i don't know when it went to court. it seems lke since it went to court, there would be some record of it, but i don't know enough about legal research to even know which court it would have went to. i think the post offices uses the gao for their awards, but i couldn't find any way to narrow my search results there without some info like you suggested. i'll keep trying, but thanx.

Take the above hint and call your congressman's local office. The staffers have to justify their existence and answering constituent questions is one way. Your not even asking for anything concrete, like a road:P, flag, dinner with the Pres., just info.:)

because information is power. it has no bearing on the information, or the answer to the question. maybe i am a member of an isis sleeper cell and am planning on using the information to bring down the us.

and the gsa does not have dealings with the post office contracts, i found this out from an email i sent to a gsa official. my next stop was sending an information request to the post office through a web form, but i haven't gotten an answer yet.

thanx for the tip about asking a congressman, i ha thought it too trivial to bother with, but they don't do anything anyway, so why not? i will on tuesday if i haven't heard from the post office dierctly.

thanx to all.
