Earp 0 #1 January 13, 2015 Headline: "GoPro Is Getting Creamed" Link: http://finance.yahoo.com/news/gopro-getting-creamed-175037526.html I don't understand this part: "the patent specifically mentions the weaknesses of the GoPro devices. Specifically, the patent notes that the new camera system could be secured to various objects, such as a bike helmet or scuba mask, or mounted to the handlebars of a motorcycle or the front of a surfboard..." That's not a GoPro weakness - that's why they're so popular, because you CAN do that. Can anyone explain?
DougH 270 #2 January 13, 2015 The article is talking about another company's patent."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
BIGUN 1,424 #3 January 14, 2015 Ya know... I can see how you came to that conclusion. That was poorly written.Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
jakee 1,564 #4 January 14, 2015 From the patent " However, the HD Hero2 camera includes only a single image capture system, which captures images using an optical axis directed outward from the "front" of the camera. This can cause excessive wind resistance and presents a high profile that is more susceptible to damage and image artifacts from vibrations in some situations." So the weakness they are referencing is simply the GoPro shape. I don't think that's anything that hasn't been noticed before Do you want to have an ideagasm? JohnMitchell 16 #5 January 14, 2015 Well, if you bought GoPro (GPRO) over 6 months ago, you're still doing alright. If you only bought it 3 months or so ago, ouch, you got a nice write off if you sell.
BIGUN 1,424 #6 January 14, 2015 Yes. The YouTube video on the DZ.com Home Page about the new Sony sums some of the problems up nicely. They are very cautious not to mention GoPro... but the points they make are valid. My favorite being the "Jello Effect."Nobody has time to listen; because they're desperately chasing the need of being heard.
ryoder 1,590 #7 January 14, 2015 BIGUN Yes. The YouTube video on the DZ.com Home Page about the new Sony sums some of the problems up nicely. They are very cautious not to mention GoPro... but the points they make are valid. My favorite being the "Jello Effect." The "jello effect" is also caused by a rolling shutter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_shutter I had a cheap ATC2K camera a few years back that did that. I currently use Contour cameras which use Ambarella chipsets (as does GoPro), and I've never seen it."There are only three things of value: younger women, faster airplanes, and bigger crocodiles" - Arthur Jones.
