GravityGirl 0 #26 October 5, 2004 Quote Has anyone actually had problems and gone in because they couldn't find their pillow? Hard to tell because you can't ask them if they spent the rest of their lives looking for a handle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! javip82 0 #27 October 5, 2004 thank's for your reply PhreeZone about the container. I just wanted to add somethin up about the debate of purchasing my new rig with a soft reserve handle. I am going to buy my pillow reserve handle not only because I think it is safer to freefly with it, but because on my level 7 I did have a cut-away and in my experience(even though I only have 60 jumps, which makes me a newbie) I think that when you have a malfunction you don't even bother about puting your finger thruw the metal. Before I went out of the plane on that jump Dano and Mike from Clewiston had told me for the first time ever to always do practice pulls, because if something went wrong I would do this automatically.Like I said I don't remember thinking about trying to put a finger in a hole or even to grab the other pouch hard so it would'nt slide. The only thing I do remember is that I pulled the cut-away and then the reserve because a few seconds ago a couple of guys told me to do it. So all in all I just want to say that if you do some practice pulls everytime you into the unknown you should be OK with or without a pillow reserve handle, as long as you have something to cut away. So the dilema should not be about choosing a handle or pillow is should be about practicing or not practicing with your handles and what ever it is that you have on your rig. ____________________________________ You know what's out there. SkydiveNFlorida 0 #28 October 5, 2004 Quote I also remember something about Finland or Sweden banning them a year or so ago when a girl went in. My recollection was she tried to pull rather than peel and couldn't get a good enough grip due to the pillow. Did she cutaway first? You also have to peel and pull the cutaway (well, I had to, anyhow). For me, I kind of liked having both handles the same. I peeled, then pulled the cutaway, then, peeled and pulled the reserve. Exact same motion on each hand, seems pretty logical (to me) to do the same thing for both parts of the sequence. I'm not doubting that this happened, but i'm wondering if she had even cutaway first, and if so, why she wouldn't do the same thing for the reserve pillow as for the cutaway pillow. angela. It was either finland or Sweden if I remember correctly.Time flies like an arrow....fruit flies like a banana

SkydiveNFlorida 0 #33 October 6, 2004 Thanks for posting, Heather. After reading the over the incident, I think the assessment vesatoro gave about the contributing factors seems pretty reasonable. To me it seems like maybe she just got freaked out because she was so low, and didn't peel before pulling. If you know how to peel and pull your cutaway, you should not have a problem with the reserve (of course, broken arms, etc, could be issue here). But, then again, error is human and we're all at risk (of many possible dangers... nothing is foolproof). Angela.

She did cutaway first but never deployed the reserve. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=766339#766339 Here is the translated report on the incident. There was talk about her being unconscious after the cutaway, also talk about her just not being able to grab the soft handle. After this incident, the soft reserve handles have been banned in Finland. Nobody seems to have any trouble with this regulation.. For some reason I'd like to see the video from her helmet.. for some reason I wouldn't.. We went searching for her in the forest next to the DZ.. saw the cutaway main laying there on the landing area and immediately knew who was in question... the situation felt really surreal Blue Skies Minnuliini... edit: oh.. it took me so long to type in the reply you guys already figured out a thread about this incident.. sundevil777 102 #35 October 6, 2004 Rick Horn's very interesting incident is worth another look: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=596086;search_string=rick%20horn;#596086People are sick and tired of being told that ordinary and decent people are fed up in this country with being sick and tired. I’m certainly not, and I’m sick and tired of being told that I am
