There is a MythBuster episode where the show how to minimize the impact from a high fall. If you are not feet first going in you are going to get hurt. Jumped off a popular cliff into Smith Lake. First try I went by myself. Aced it. Then, without really thinking it through, tried to get my wife to jump off hand in hand with me. She balked at the last second, which threw my balance off just slightly, and I hit the water at an angle. Then a second later my wife hit the water just a couple feet away. We survived, but we sure as hell didn't feel so good for the next hour or two. At least I got that crossed off my bucket list. No desire to ever try that shit again. We had a quarry we used to swim at and it had some pretty nice 50' cliffs... nice and sheer with at least 40' of water below them as well . jumping off of high points requires a decent amount of water in which to land.... skyjumpenfool 2 #7 August 20, 2015 Yep, 90 feet was my highest. Even though I entered the water correctly, it sent a shock wave thru my bones. I pulled one (very experienced diver) out of the water at Taylers Falls after he went in crooked from 60 feet. He suffered from that dive for years. 40 feet is high enough to hurt you bad. I found about 30 feet to be my magic number. When I messed up, it hurt me but didn't break me. And, there was enough time for several flips and a twist or two before you landed. But this guy, over 190 feet?? I can't even imagine entering the water from that "altitude". Not to mention the skill it took to keep falling in control? Amazing!
