Rick 67 #1 August 20, 2015 taking a cue from Promise's thread. How many of you vacation with your extended family? I have 3 sisters and 1 brother. For years we would rent a house on the beach in Topsail Island NC for 2 weeks. Everybody would come when and for however long they could get days off. (We are kinda spread around the country.) This gave all of our kids a chance to know each other. Now the kids are grown we have done a few cruise with anywhere from 12 to 22 people in the group Next spring several of us are taking a beer tasting tour of Belgium and Germany. I love travelling with my family. They are fun intelligent people to hang out with. Maybe it works because we do live so far apart and when we get together it is vacation mode. How about ya'll?You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!

Rick 67 #3 August 20, 2015 beautiful place well except the one year that the house we rented got uprooted by a hurricane the week before we were supposed to be there. That year we ended up in a hotel in Myrtle Beach. You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!

NewGuy2005 53 #6 August 20, 2015 Did it once at Grand Teton/Yellowstone. Rented a great big house at Jackson Hole. Expected a disaster and it turned out to be one of the best weeks ever.
DougH 270 #7 August 20, 2015 On my mothers side she is one of five, with twelve grandchildren. About 10 years ago my grandfather rented multiple cabins near crab tree falls VA for the entire family to stay for two weeks. I sure am glad he did that. We spent holidays at his house as a big group so being together wasn't new, but this time dedicated to just vacationing and not the holiday rush, is one of my favorite memories of my times with him."The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
tigra 0 #8 August 20, 2015 I've done a few Mexico trips with my sisters and their kids- young adults now. Lots of fun BUT sometimes travelling with a group can be exhausting- we seem to need a committee decision for everything we do!
amstalder 0 #9 August 21, 2015 My husband's family does a week on the beach every year. 25 people stuffed into one house! Whew, that was an adjustment (especially since I've never actually gone WITH him, he's always had to work) given that I have NO extended family, just my parents and sibling. We've talked about meeting family other places for a vacation, but they always end up coming to us since we move so much.

We've talked about meeting family other places for a vacation, but they always end up coming to us since we move so much. It took my brother's wife a few years to get used to our family on vacation. We are all very close and tend to party a bit. Coming from a smaller more "reserved" family it was a little overwhelming. Once she developed a taste for rum it was all good. skymama 37 #11 August 21, 2015 Since the 80's, my grandparents owned 3 time share condos in Sapphire Valley, NC. Our family would use the condos to all meet up at the same time, which would have been about 30 people, and we'd spend the whole week together. It was a great way to get to know our cousins who lived in other cities and states. Those vacations are what formed my love of the mountains. I have only good memories from those trips! It's a lot harder to get everyone together now because the family is huge and there are so many kids on different schedules. Mom is hoping to have a gathering next summer though. This summer, my son asked to use the time share and he brought five buddies with him. I loved that he enjoyed our trips so much that he wanted to share the experience with his friends. Mark and I are hauling the camper up there this Fall, I can't wait! Edit: We are also hoping to trade our travel trailer for a fifth wheel with a bunk house soon so we can bring more family with us on trips. We have 5 kids, their mates and 4 grandkids between us. We need more room! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon
Rick 67 #12 August 21, 2015 that is great I am sure Nick has fond memories of your family vacations As everyone gets older and has more responsibilities it is harder to get them all together at one time. We have to plan a year or more out to make it happen. You can't be drunk all day if you don't start early!
